677773 2008-06-12 07:34:00 has anyone sent perfume through mail before? apparently it's prohibited by NZ Post (even though one of their staff said it's okay, then later say no...)

so is there some other way to mail perfume inside NZ?

677774 2008-06-12 07:44:00 Try Courier Post. I have never sent perfume to anyone via post as I usually prefer to give it to the lucky lady in person :) I wouldn't see why it would be a problem if it was in packaging since it just gets counted as oversize mail anyway since it is not the same dimensions as a letter. People send pills and bottles of tablets through the mail all the time with no problems. vitalstatistix (9182)
677775 2008-06-12 08:32:00 Might be the fact it is flammable? But what they don't know won't hurt them... timaru2007 (12408)
677776 2008-06-12 08:35:00 um..went to courier post's website (www.courierpost.co.nz)
and perfume is also prohibited...

any other that I could try? I don't usually send things around by mail so not sure what other alternatives are
also if someone had previous experience of sending perfume would help too I guess...

If it is sealed properly and you don't tell them they won't know - unless you are sending it overseas then you have to say what it is. I think the customs max requirement is 100mls of liquid due to anti terrorism requirements, it is for flying anyway.

I have never heard or been told of any issues with delivering perfume by mail.

677779 2008-06-12 12:01:00 Some courier companies must deliver perfumes, otherwise, how would retailers be able to obtain supplies?

I have had it sent to me, but it was from an overseas company. It had been through the proper channels and took 2 weeks longer than other products from the same company.

A friend in England had a tiny bottle of perfume confiscated from her bag that was searched, before she went into a soccer game. Maybe they thought she was going to sprinkle it over the players!!

Freight and Cartage companies or companies that deliver Flammable Materials/Chemicals

677781 2008-06-12 13:13:00 Possibly all courier drivers would need a "D" endorsement on their driver licence.

I had a job where I drove a truck carrying 10,000 litres of diesel. No need for the "D" for that. But we also carried cans of spray paint and hence the need for me.

The same way that shops obtain paint, and similar products. They use specialised courier companies, Chemcouriers is one of them.
