| 808439 | 2009-09-09 11:37:00 | Yello, I have installed Ubuntu 8.06 on a separate box and connected to the net through a D-Link dsl 502t. I also have an XP pc connected through the same router. When I installed Ubuntu, I just plugged the network cable straight into an ethernet switch, both computors can access the net but i am having a problem connecting Ubuntu to M/soft to download net 2.0 and assorted apps to run Winetricks. I didn't any settings into ubuntu and it has been suggested that the DNS might be the problem. The error log is as follows: ""e:~$ sh winetricks msxml3 Executing wget -O msxml3.msi -nd -c --read-timeout=300 --retry-connrefused --header Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate download.microsoft.com --17:38:41-- download.microsoft.com => `msxml3.msi' Resolving download.microsoft.com... 1.0.0.0 Connecting to download.microsoft.com|1.0.0.0|:80..." I have run ipconfg in the xp box and got the addresses but not sure which ones go where in Ubuntu, any help appreciated, TIA, whenu |

| 808440 | 2009-09-09 13:42:00 | . . . Resolving download . microsoft . com . . . 1 . 0 . 0 . 0 Connecting to download . microsoft . com|1 . 0 . 0 . 0|:80 . . . " That sure does look like a DNS problem . If you are connecting fine to the internet fine otherwise then maybe wget has cached the wrong address (1 . 0 . 0 . 0) for some reason . Try killing all instances of wget - better yet, reboot . Wget will then try to re-resolve the correct address . |
