2008-06-19 01:30:00 | I rattle and am full of stitches........... i had major nose surjery ( reformation on the inside) and also had my tonsils out. to enlarge and fix my airways which seems to have caused a undiagnosed life long problem with breathing, allergys, hayfever etc. this also caused, insomnia, breathing probs, and fatigue from body working very hard to get air. i had the op last week, took hours longer than they anticipated. i take up to 5 lots of medication at a time for various reasons........ 2 of them being for pain alone.. but i find the most daunting aspect is as home alone, eating and energy go hand in hand. and when you dont eat you cant function. so i surely losing weight and eating very erratic, and mstly yoghurt, at 3 am the pain levels is daunting.............. all pain killers at once do not always help, so lying in the dark, miserable it is. waiting for sleep oblivion to catch up. why i am saying this is, has any other adults been thro this type of operation and how did you cope? i have a zillion other personal things going on in my life as usual, sick parents, no help, and sick animals, and the neighbours on my case, cos i imobile to a ertain extent, my dogs are noisey.sigh. what did you eat? how did you cope.............. how long before the pain becomes bearable? no bouncy dotty beetle at the moment, but ya cant kill weeds, so i will be back on form soon. beetle

2008-06-19 01:52:00 | Had my tonsils out at 34 - had my nose done(similar probs) at 65. No problems with either. Ate a roast meal the night of the tonsilectomy. Hurt a bit but I was pretty hungry. The kitchen had no ice cream and jelly. I was in a ward full of kids, bar another bloke) The only problem with the nose was pulling the 3 metres of packing out. Tends to make ones mind focus on what's happening......... (a few dots in sympathy ;) ) Glad there was a 31 year gap!!! Don't think I would like both done at once though. Especially as beetles have 2 noses and 6 tonsils :) Hope you are well soon Ken

2008-06-19 02:03:00 | Sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle beetle. A couple of years ago I had a hernia operation, and while the pain wasn't on my face, the large cut they had to make on my lower stomach was really painful for a week. I had no appetite, cannot get to sleep as easily, and had to stay away from anything humorous as a laugh would make the pain far worse. To be honest I had no choice but rode the pain out....was a miserable week until I was well enough to go back to school. Granted, at that time I didn't have as many personal problems as you do now, so I guess I can't say anything but hang in there. As for my dog, he was, to my surprise, quite understanding. Usually when I hold his walking leash, he'd go ballistic and demands to be walked by whining loudly. But when I was in that painful state, he remained calm and 'understanding' even when I rattled the leash in front of him. Maybe you need someone to dog-sit your pooch while you're still recovering at least?

2008-06-19 02:35:00 | Sorry to hear this beetle . . . . . I donated a kidney to my mother in October last year, and must say I recovered fairly quickly - the week in hospital was pretty unbearable, but once I got home I started to improve fairly quickly . My surgery was laporoscopic, so the trauma was minimal (4 keyhole incisions, and a 5th under my belly button to remove the kidney - about 4 inches long) . Being 30 I also have youth on my side, so all up I was only off work for 4 1/2 weeks . I ate very little in the first few weeks, simply because I had no appetite . But every day saw an improvement, even if it was very small . Do you have a district nurse calling on you? Pain management is a very tricky thing, as people all response differently to meds . Keep on at your Doctors until they get you sorted, and try to keep in the back of your mind that you will get better one day . !!

2008-06-19 03:00:00 | I had mainly drinks when I was in hospital last year. Mainly as I was KOed on drugs I couldnt do it myself anyway. When I came to it was like you say, yogurts, ice cream and jelly, soup, cereals and toast. I went from 115 kg to 85 kg, but eventually you come right. Lots of sleep cures alot of things. When they sent me home a district nurse came around each day to check stiches, clean the wounds etc she also gave me a mini book thing on recovery foods, theres heaps of nice stuff on it! I especially liked the part where they said to drink flavour milk! As for the pain they just kept giving me more drugs.

2008-06-20 08:11:00 | Really, it is important in this cool weather to bear in mind that xmas is coming (- in 6 months). Why not take advantage of your new nose feathers and hang some ornaments on the stray ends of the stitches? Little beads of glue hanging on strings from your nose would be bound to be a conversation starter. The kids would be jealous.
