| 680114 | 2008-06-19 01:54:00 | We call them the "Denver Boot" after some obscure city or inventor from that city . Actually the Denver boot was invented and patented in 1953 by Frank Marugg . Marugg was an inventor, a violinist with the Denver Symphony Orchestra, and a good friend to many Denver politicians and police department officials . As such, when the police department needed a solution to a growing parking enforcement problem, the sheriff approached Marugg asking for help, and the two came up with the idea for the clamp . Now I have a pretty good mental picture of an accordion player having dreams of some sortta instrument captivating device, but a concert violinist? Gads! He must've played that fiddle really bad! They are Oxy-Acetylene torch-proof and they aren't likely hammered off either . We don't see them much in SoCal . . there are too many people who would likely shoot a cop if they tried to put one on their car . |
