678998 2008-06-16 20:20:00 Hi Guys

Thanks for all you help on how to clean your (my glasses)

My new question is

What do you do when you are out and about and it starts raining ?

And then when you get in your car, you can't see etc.

I have thought about getting a second pair to keep in the car.

What do you do ?

679000 2008-06-16 20:23:00 Keep a piece of cleaning cloth in the car?

Use the car's inbuilt heater?

679001 2008-06-16 21:20:00 You mean yours don't have little windscreen wipers???

Jamuz is right...keep cleaning cloth in vehicle. If desperate, dry on inner sleeve.

679002 2008-06-16 21:47:00 I got contact lenses for tramping, motorcycling, cycling, and scuba diving. That deals with the problem... John H (8)
679003 2008-06-16 22:12:00 Either wear a baseball cap or other type of hat that shields your eyes, or simply take your specs off. For brief times, just shield your spec with your hand. BTW your concern may seem silly to those who do not wear specs all the time but actually rain drops on specs can be a real annoyance. Fogging is worse in some ways because there is not much you can do to prevent it (I do not trust anti fog liquid on plastics). Motorcycling on cold winter days with a full face helmet can be bad with specs fogging - its OK when moving as you can crack open the visor but when stationary.... X#@&%! Strommer (42)
679004 2008-06-16 23:14:00 I got contacts about 10 years ago, wish i had got them years before that. No problems with rain anymore, can wear them water skiing, diving, swimming, even under water with my eyes open, they are awesome. Andrew B (867)
679005 2008-06-17 07:25:00 Wet glasses doesn't really matter, they air dry by themselve, some pple wash them with water and then just wear them wet until they dry off but they can have water marks on them (dried) . But optically it should not be an issue .

The only issue I have with wet glasses is that if its pouring raining outside and I have no umbrealla and no hood . . then that affects how you see .

When its raining I don't really care, when I am inside at work I dry them . . at lunch time I just put up with them . . . If I am going out in the w'ends and seeing pple etc . . I just use contact lenses .

With contacts, if you are a rare user - go for daily contacts no solutions to buy at all . If you are a frequent user go for bi weekly disposables and all you need is the gentle multi purpose solution . Daily are about $4 per pair, Bi weekly are around $20/2 weeks or $1 . 50 per day .

I don't suggest custom made permanent contacts b/c if you lose one it cost you $350 or $280 depending on yours . I had hayfever when I first got them, rubbed my eyes and one fell out . The other I took out and clipped it with my finger nail and next few days via cleaning them they split into multiple pieces . The 3rd time, tap was too strong and it was washed down the drain but fortunately we have a chicken wire at the drain . Perm contacts need more extensive cleaning solutions too and your prescription won't be renewed unless you are willing to buy a new pair costing up to $700 for most pple .

From my maths if you freq wear them . . bi weekly are best, if you got perm lenses, they take about 2 yrs to breakeven .

Cos, with the bi weeklies, $20/2 weeks or $500 per year and about $150 in solutions .

Perms - up front cost $600-700 if cost have not gone down . Solutions maybe these days $300-400/year . When I first had them I spent $500-600 per year b/c they were more individual bottles style cleaning . . . .

679006 2008-06-17 07:35:00 a quick shake gets most of the water off, or simply wipe with whatever you have if you don't have a micro cloth.

i just keep my old pair as a backup. unfortunately that did catch me out as they are not quite powerful enough for me to see enough to drive !

contacts are ok but dry eyes and air conditioning means constant use of eye drops. also for me i have to wear sunglasses, so i end up wearing glasses most of the time anyway !
