Bought this Digital Video Camera off 1-day . co . nz, arrived today - as it would have for the other people who bought it (I couldn't have been the only one as it was a good bargain compared to prices elsewhere) .

First impressions is that the camera is very small! Came bundled with lots of stuff including some software to convert media formats etc etc .

Thats when the problems began, hense this thread!

First of all, I have a 'SanDisk microSD/TransFlash Adaptor' memory card that was given to me last year, I put it in the SD slot of the camera and followed the manual word by word . Filmed for a while then ran out of memory . . . huh? Thought this SD card was 1GB??

hooked it up to the comp and its showing that it holds only 32 . 8mb storage . . . I laughed because I thought thats the storage that was on the SD card because the built in storage is '64mb' .

Took the SD card out and the storage is the same, concluded that it was mostly used up for its Operating System and thats fine by me; but why won't the SD card work? Seems to make no difference in or out as if the camera can't read it or doesn't even know it's there .

I did some googling and doesn't seem to be a SDHC card although they look the same this one doesn't say HC on it and has a 'SD' logo . The camera's specifications state that it supports SD Card (MMC Compatible) .

Tried sliding the little lock on the card but made no difference either way .

So I am confused as to buying the right SD card if the one I have isn't compatible . . .

ANYWAY - PROBLEM NO . 2 - software problem .

Camera states it can play movies and display pictures and play music that you upload to it, tried all of these and only mp3's worked . . . Doesn't even 'see' the pictures I put on, nor does it detect any video files existing, which is strange because I used the media program provided to convert my . wmv video to . AVI, which is what the cameras recorded format is . .

The specs say it supports MPEG4, this is the same as AVI is it not, and anyway the thing records avi so why can't it play avi . doesn't even say it can't play just says no media . . . and the pictures it takes are in . JPG too so thats kinda strange dont you reckon?

I noticed that the formats were in uppercase but changing them from lower to upper didn't work either . . .

so does anyone have any ideas or experience with digital video devices?

besides that its a pretty neat phone . just can't make use of it with only 32mb of storage available!!! And I want to watch movies on it (holds up to 4gb flash) .

thanks in advance, sorry for my spam

678909 2008-06-16 12:27:00 Oh kay no replies thanks but I've found out whats wrong

pictures must be called PICT000N.JPG
assuming N is a positive integer

However if you try cycle through the photos with slideshow they will automatically delete..

Same goes for videos, must name
CLIP000N.AVI
assuming N is a positive integer

Perhaps making the images the same resolution / aspect ratio will help.

Seems this camera was poorly programmed... Speed if you're reading... make a firmware update!

.avi (en.wikipedia.org) is what is known as a container format (en.wikipedia.org(digital)) (.mov is as well). This means you can use different codecs such as h264, divx, xvid, indeo and it's still a valid .avi file.

From what you've said, this camera should play mpeg4 clips so if you're converting to .avi, you need to use an mpeg4 codec - divx, xvid, h264

678912 2008-06-16 22:52:00 yeah im pretty sure I did since I used the camera's software but I'll try again.

678913 2008-06-17 05:15:00 ah figured out what was wrong

678914 2008-06-17 05:18:00 Ah I see what you mean now :D

Got confused

678915 2008-06-17 05:42:00 Wow I even have to use the converter for .jpg's.... even though it names them CLIP0001.JPG just rename to PICT0001.JPG and it works fine, make sure the original image is 640x480 if you want to set it as your startup picture otherwise it will stretch it..

I put the reason of this thread down to a poorly written manual. The End. I hope

678916 2008-06-17 11:22:00 I also have just received this camera from 1Day. The Manual is absolutely useless. I will keep you findings filed for when I get this far. I am gong to sound real "dunb here but could you please tell medoes the battery recharge only when connected to the PC?? Meantime I will scout around the internet to find answers. Tricky little b.......... Many thanks NanaD (12752)
678917 2008-06-17 12:38:00 :D:D:D:

i knew i wasn't the only one... sorry to the manufacturer for making all the google results about this camera negative

it probably could charge with a mobile phone wall charger but I wouldn't try it, might wanna check the voltages and current etc before trying... As for charging via usb. It's no hassle, mines plugged in all the time if im not using it, the battery has only ever gone to half full once so it seems alright..

but if it charges via usb as slow as my mobile then thats gonna suck..

Just realised u can flip the lcd upside down and then close it again so its like a little tv! this is probably really obvious and "duhhhhh" but i've never had something liek this before lol.

THE ONLY QUESTION I HAVE REMAINING....
is will it accept an SD card, because it doesn't recognise my one.. just ordered a 4GB one off trademe for like $30 so will test it out soon, other than that all i can fit is about 2 music videos, 12 pictures and 4 mp3's at the same time. And the e-book function is pretty handy! saves me having to take notes on my mobile.

lol in the first post i called the camera a phone... XD so similar!
