678745 2008-06-15 23:53:00 On my Sky bill this month I saw a blurb ad at the bottom that promotes www.skytv.co.nz/online. So I hooked in, but what a surprise! Their service needs you to totally be a part of the MS club if you want to use this service. I have no idea what the service is, and I won't even miss it having not seen it, but still: I thought that alternative operating systems esp. OS X have recently been becoming popular enough to be considered by a company like Sky. Perhaps they haven't got the memo that they have competition.

678746 2008-06-16 01:17:00 Hey they DO cater for Firefox.

But it's hard to see the need to provide customer service when you yourself have no competition!!! Why bother... :groan:

That probably has a lot to do with Rupert Murdoch owning Sky and having a deal with MS as well as Apple not licensing their iTunes h.264 codec out to Sky although they have licensed it to the various movie studios that supply iTunes with movies and possibly something to do with the DRM involved although Microsoft's DRM is pretty crackable within 5 minutes. Still it is pretty crappy considering that the BBC iPlayer now works on Macs or is about to.

678748 2008-06-16 02:01:00 What they don't tell you as I found out last week when I tried it to "just have a look" is they want you to subscribe to "My Sky" , I have Sky Digital, yet you just go round in circles unless you have "My Sky" wainuitech (129)
678749 2008-06-16 04:22:00 Just to add to my previous post - Thought " what the Hell" and loaded up their online chat, may as well have a "chat" and see what the actual requirements are, seems that you currently have to subscribe to one of their Movie Channels to obtain the online movies, then its costs an additional $5 per month - not to bad for as much as your bandwidth will take.

They are looking at having a "pay as you Go" Service sometime, so you don't even have to be a sky customer to download the movies.
