I am looking for a fairly basic piece of software that I can use to create a fairly basic web site. It doesn't need any whistles and bells just the ability to show pix and text. I have tried using Word and Publisher but to my 70 year old brain they get me even more confused. Is there anything out there in the WYSIWYG area or would it be more economical fro me to get a professional to do it for me ? alan |

Then upload your site to your free host (use a free FTP program to upload your site - e.g. Core FPT Lite. But perhaps for your needs... You can also create a web site easily online with Yola (www.yola.com/) (used to be Synthasite, and was popular) Weebly (http:), Jimdo, and Webepags (http://www.webepags.com/). Visit their web sites to review them, and sign in if you want. There are other easy web site building tools, e.g.Snap Pages (www.snappages.com/) (Good for sharing photos), and Edicy Pages (http:) (Various templates/themes similar to Blogger and Wordpress). You could start with a blog as well, e.g. try the Google’s blogger or the advanced Wordpress (which you can add plugins for enhancement), or use the simple Google Page Creator (soon to be changed to Google Sites - You need a Gmail account) - easy to set up for a beginner. |

| 809937 | 2009-09-14 03:52:00 | Unless it interests you greatly, you might be better off just registering a free account at [rurl=http://www.tumblr.com/]Tumblr[/url] (currently unusually down for upgrades) or similar, then just using one of the 100s of free themes (www.tumblr.com) that comes with it. If I was 70+ I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of HTML, seriously. With Tumblr you can use your own custom HTML/JavaScript if you like, you could use your own domain name if you own one, and it's all free (not to mention ad-free). |

I am quite happy to do a site for you for free but it will be your responsibility to pay for hosting, domains, extra data charges etc. I am also happy to update the site say once a month also for free. Bear in mind it would be your site and if any changes were wanted it would be over to you to send the information to me as I can't read your mind.There would be no charge on my part as you would have to pay the hosting, domain etc direct to whoever you choose to go with. We use http://www.kiwiwebhost.co.nz/ and you can get an account there for $1.00 per week. Then you might want to find a domain name supplier. You may be able to find a member here who will host for free. For the Mods I am in no way associated with the link above. I use Publisher 2007 to put Web sites together and I have the feeling that while editors recommended above are very good you may not get the results you desire on your own. Currently, I regularly maintain a web site for a local community group which I won't give a link to as I did this once in the past so another publication of this site could be considered spam. Publisher is not for the purists as the code would not be optimised but works OK in Firefox and IE. I use WSFTP Pro to maintain the site. Send me a PM if at all interested.
