809819 2009-09-13 08:49:00 Hi all.
I have just got a new Panasonic bluray player. it can access Youtube apparently- and has an ethernet socket at the back. I don't want to run a cable, I'd rather connect via my WiFi router. all the wireless adaptors seem to be USB based. is there an ethernet plug equivalent I can get? cheers, Theo.

809820 2009-09-13 09:04:00 Get a PCI card. Altho ethernet would probably be more reliable than WIFI Speedy Gonzales (78)

PCI card for the bluray player?:p

theob: Here are 2 solutions for ya:

1. Ethernet Over Power. [2 power plugs, carries ethernet over power...:p)
Will cost between around $100, or less if you're prepared to hunt around on TradeMe

2. Buy a DD-WRT supported wireless router and then configure it into client mode. This will allow the router to grab the wifi signal, then tunnel it through its ethernet ports...

WL-520GC is only around $50 on TM, so this would be the cheaper option.
It would also be a bit more technical.

809822 2009-09-13 20:24:00 I'd go with Option 2 -- A wireless bridge :) Chilling_Silence (9)
809823 2009-09-13 21:37:00 I thought he meant something for the computer instead of a USB adapter. He didnt say WHAT the adapter was for Speedy Gonzales (78)
809824 2009-09-14 20:35:00 thanks- yes option 2 looks like the go- the bluray player assigns its own IP address- I was hoping just an aerial would work- but that's not a very tech. solution! theob (7255)
