679601 2008-08-13 00:03:00 If they last more than a month, then they'll last ages, but a significant number fail within the first few weeks of use, in an expensive sort of fashion.

What expensive sort of fashion? Do they explode and destroy the fitting (unlikely)?

Take them back and get a replacement.

No, they just fail to function.

And again, no. My other half insists on buying them, no way I'm going to protect him from the consequences of his own decisions. Not when I disagree with him, anyway - I can't stand the colour of the light.

And also, I'm way too lazy.

679606 2008-08-14 08:37:00 The latest issue of the New Zealand Listener - August 16-22 has an article (page 51) that casts some light (sorry) on the current myths being propagated about CFLs.
Still, why bother acquainting yourself with the facts, foaming at the mouth about Nanny state is much more fun.

679607 2008-08-14 08:44:00 I prefer CFL's (of the older straight variety) but I abhor being dictated to. R2x1 (4628)

679609 2008-09-09 01:30:00 Apparently, optometrists don't like them either (www.3news.co.nz tothejob/tabid/420/articleID/70501/cat/59/Default.aspx). Which is a bit bizarre really, considering what they sell...

Does anyone know where to buy the LED lightbulbs (ones that will fit in a standard bayonet or screw fitting?)

679610 2008-09-09 02:15:00 I know ThinkGeek sold them, dunno if they still do, or if they do 240v ones. ubergeek85 (131)
