But in fact, your home thermometer probably contains alcohol or something other then mercury . Mercury is expensive and ever so slightly toxic . . . . . :D My home thermometer USED to contain mercury, but alas . . . And the alchohol is far better off in me . A charming sight is the enthusiastic tricks performed by a gullible person trying to pick up mercury with a magnet . For two days! Things were being proposed like "It's a liquid so the opposing poles flow together and cancel out - - you have to cut the magnet exactly in half so you only have a North pole . " And other suggestions that were not quite so practical or helpful . Sadly, other than it is bad to break manometers and classmates can be cruel, I doubt if he learned much from the exercise . |

Alas this includes most incandescent bulbs. You are not limited to CFLs. There are already import bans on all sorts of items, the Government will add low efficiency lamps next year. I would expect that specialty bulbs, e.g. oven lights, would be excluded. |

You are right, however it does mean that it may end up being difficult to source non normal sized bulbs . eg the importers probably will need to cut through red tape for an exception form to import the non norma bulbs, which may mean filling in a multiple page form . However I do have an assurance from eeca that no one will need to replace lighht fittings |

| 679589 | 2008-06-20 19:42:00 | There are about 40,000 different types of light bulbs. How will the govermint tell which ones have low efficiency. It will be a bureaucratic nightmare ! (but then again everything Labour does is) |

(but then again everything Labour does is) Yeah. "Lampless days" would be a far better solution. Look how well we saved petrol under a similar scheme. If you think ANY government is going to act efficiently and / or wisely, I have a few desirable properties you might like to buy. Right. |
