809794 2009-10-06 22:48:00 If it were me the next step would be to reinstall
the original OS (Vista?)
If it then did not show the problematic behaviour
I would do an upgrade to Win7 and see
if that helped! long winded I know but unsure what
else to suggest.

809795 2009-10-06 23:12:00 Might see if we still have the XP / Vista discs that came with it. We've just moved in together (recently married) so we're chucking out *so* much stuff at the moment, hope this wasn't one of them ... Chilling_Silence (9)
809796 2009-10-10 00:15:00 Been testing with Mint 7 for a few hours, a few reboots. Thus far there's absolutely no issues at all.

Kind of glad in the one sense, but kind of gutted, means it's likely just a Win7 issue :-/

Edit: I wonder if I can convince the wifey on Linux, provided I can get Warcraft III working :D

809797 2009-10-10 01:07:00 Seems to be supported to some extent in
Wine, Cedega and Crossover Games.
Maybe Toshiba or Microsoft will issue a patch for your Win7 Issue?

809798 2009-10-10 02:03:00 I dunno, might see about contacting Toshiba and letting them know, she's supposed to get a free Win7 upgrade with it, so you'd expect it to work :-/ Chilling_Silence (9)
809799 2009-10-10 04:52:00 Yes I think that's a good idea. Hopefully they
will be able to shed more light on it.

809800 2009-10-10 06:18:00 Hmm from what I've read that stop error can come up if:

You're using Kaspersky IS

Avast (previous / beta versions)

Nvidia drivers / video drivers

Beta version of Windows 7

Some sites say it can also happen, if you've got a lot of ram. And one way to fix it, (maybe), is to remove 1/2 the ram install windows, then put it back

There's also a few sites, where people have been getting that error, when they install windows too

If Avast was installed (but now it isnt), are there any files left on the system belonging to it?

809801 2009-10-10 08:51:00 MMmmm good question ... Perhaps it's time for another format :D Chilling_Silence (9)
809802 2009-10-10 09:48:00 If its the RTM, get the x86 or x64 (www.microsoft.com) debugging tools. That'll tell you whats crashing it Speedy Gonzales (78)
809803 2009-10-10 10:17:00 Hmm seems that crash can happen with some monitors (social.technet.microsoft.com) too. Do the same thing with vista it wont crash. It'll also crash with this stop error, if you use Outpost, and counterstrike. You have to kill outpost before you play CS Speedy Gonzales (78)
