809701 2009-09-13 06:47:00 OK. I'm just gonna run this a while and see what breaks.

I need to get my Firefox Up-N-Running, and is Chrome available on Ubuntu?

809706 2009-09-14 00:25:00 It runs good and I have had no real problems yet.

I am wondering how to use that .tar in the downloader for Google Updates and add-ons.

I see them, but cannot remember what happens next - do I just reboot and let them self-install or wot?

809707 2009-09-14 00:36:00 You can think of a tar file as the Linux equivalent of a zip file. I can't really help unless you tell me about what's inside.

Note also that you should be installing most stuff via the package manager - usually if you're trying top install something from a tarball, it means that you're doing things the wrong way. There are a few exceptions, but not many.

809708 2009-09-14 02:11:00 I was trying for some Google and FF updates since this version of Ubuntu is rather old.

Problem? I wonder if I can run some of the addons and themes in FF that I had in XP.
SurferJoe46 (51)
809709 2009-09-14 02:26:00 Yeah don't install those from tarballs - you can get them via the package manager.

Yes, most themes & addons that work with XP will work in Ubuntu as well - they're platform-neutral.

809710 2009-09-14 02:43:00 Goto "System-Administration -Synaptic packet manager" You will be asked 4 yr password,
enter it then clk reload (top LH side of the popup) and you will get a list of all the updates
available for your setup. Then "mark all upgrades" and clk "install.
The install will take a long time as yr Ubuntu is so old but you will end up with the up to date version.
Good luck
