680100 2008-06-22 22:43:00 I had a similar op, twice, and understand what you went through. It felt like barbed wire being pulled through your nostrils, and when you consider that the nasal passages are so sensitive that even a speck of dust can make you sneeze... well it was excrutiating and blood spurted everywhere! :(

Could you give us a few more gory details, that didn't quite make me sick!.

680101 2008-06-23 02:12:00 Beetle, those details were too much information...

Did you have your nose packed? My wife had to have hers done, after uncontrollable bleeding when she was sent home after her sinus operation. I watched the packing process, whilst holding her hand. I could not believe how rough and violent the process was. He basically shoved and then hammered an object like the stick out of an ice block up both of her nasal passages. He then filled it with liquid so it swelled up and filled all the passages. The trauma of that on top of the operation itself has to end up with lots and lots of pain, so I feel for you.

The basic rule of thumb we were given was that you need to stay off work for one week per hour of anaesthesia - if you are out three hours, you need three weeks off. My wife has found that for each of her ops (not just sinus), she has needed more than that. Mind you, she is probably twice your age, so that could have an impact on recovery!

Get well soon!

680102 2008-06-23 04:39:00 Sorry guys............

No packing for my nose. My surgeon believes that packing hinders the healing process, and does damage when you need to remove it. so i guess i was lucky.

i just had a gauze thing under my nose that we changed regularly, which was taped to the face, been asleep most of the day, i still cannot beleive how much i can sleep with really not doing much at all.

even tho right this minute we have to go to the supermarket and get some food........ cupboards look a bit sad.

the nose looks ok from the outside, it just feels tight and a bit blocked from the inside, i still have some stictes in there, and it does ache a bit, but managable.
