679356 2008-06-19 01:04:00 if you want a high-end toy then you pay a high-end price.

Pot calling the kettle black mate. If anything, the iPhone is as big a toy as we have seen for years.

679357 2008-06-19 02:29:00 Maybe that is what the petition should be about, as that is effctvely locking the iphone. I am sure the commerce commission wouldn't be happy that vodafone are doing that either, as ther are competition issues.

The petition is actually about Vodafone only offering the iPhone on contract. Just about every other Telecom that will be selling the iPhone is offering BOTH contract AND prepay options.

Incidently just becasue the iPhone is "locked" to a particular service provider doesn't make it a brick - lack of avialable software would, which is something the iPhone doesn't suffer from.

As for "only fan boyz and girlz" interested in the iPhone... it's pretty high in the UK

O2 sees interest soars for lower-price iPhone

As for the touch screen - that would be patented two finger touch screen with stroke for scrolling with no stylus needed.

679359 2008-06-19 03:27:00 Hmm.I actually won't sign the petition as I don't like using the iphone in the first place but good luck to you guys.

I doubt a petition will do anything though. If vodafone listened to customers we wouldn't have had high calling prices and data prices for the past 10 years ..

I would agree with you on the petition side of things although I did sign it myself.

Have you actually used or owned an iPhone?

I borrowed my friend's one to use

Although the Iphone is better than Sony Ericsson's Symbian UIQ.

I like the symbian os 9.2 better and I believe Nokia will release a good touch screen near the end of the year.

There's just so many application that iphone does not support.Symbian has a whole range of games and application.

You have to unlock before you can use it and it really annoys me
.If the iphone does stuff up your on your own.

There is nothing special about an Iphone. Its like the same as Sony Ericsson mobile W960i and P1i .Just that the menus and other things like the layout are different. You use it the same way but the texting is better than the Sony Ericsson models.

Everyone keeps saying how good the touch screen is but personally in a small country like NZ who can afford a $1000 touch screen.

There aren't many people in NZ that use touch screen based mobile
I mean when you walk down the streets NZ.How many use touch screen mobile?I've seen one so far in palmerston north. That was 2 years ago.
I believe because of the marketing strategies and the fact that hardly any in NZ uses touch screen base mobiles they think Iphone is great.

But personally I would just say its another phone.

Being overseas and a asian who lived in hong Kong.I have used many varieties of touch screen like, Sony Ericsson,O2 and other chinese and taiwanese brand.
When you use the Iphone its nothing really special

Although I don't like the Iphone.I think the OS is much better than Windows Mobile

I cannot stand having a mobile that doesnt have a keypad. Its just too much of a problem if the entire mobile is touch based

679362 2008-06-19 04:55:00 The only reason you currently have to unlock the iPhone to use it in NZ is because the 1st Gen iPhone is not supported by Vodafone. As for applications that work on the iPhone - that has been well and trully taken care of with the 3G iPhone and the Apps store/SDK

As for the $1000 price tag, that only applied to the 1st Gen iPhone.

Do you remember when the first 10/15/20GB iPods appeared in NZ back in late 2003. They were priced at around $900 initially and only a few people had them. People originally said that iPod was an acronym for Idiots Price Our Devices - now 5 years later and you can't walk down the street or through a uni campus without seeing people listening to or watching their iPods which have gone way up in capacity and way down in price. Otago Uni now has an official podcast setup on iTunes. Expect the same type of scenario with the iPhone and the software that gets developed and sold as a result of the SDK and App store.

Needham & Co. analyst Charles Wolf this morning predicted Apple will sell near 30 million iPhones next year.

In an extensive briefing despatched to clients this morning, Wolf shared calculations which suggest the installed base of iPhone users will reach 150 million in the next ten years - the equivalent of 5 per cent of the installed base of mobile phone owners in that year.

Wolf based his new predictions on Apple's seeming decision to drop revenue-sharing deals in most of the countries it offers the device in, and on strength of the carrier subsidies being offered with iPhone 3G, which see the mobile sold for as little as one Euro by T-Mobile in Germany and Austria.

On strength of the much-improved iPhone offering (principally based on price), the analyst expects the iPhone 3G will snare 7 per cent of the US mobile phone market next year, with sales of 14 million units there; beyond the US, Wolf estimates international iPhone sales will hit 15.6 million sales next year, for a total figure just shy of 30 million total sales in 2009.

Vodafone could at least treat their New Zealand iPhone customers the same as they treat their Australian iPhone customers.

Kiwis don't usually let people walk all over them.
