680090 2008-06-21 04:03:00 Ah. Ring friend. Friend comes over and makes you yummy flavoured custards and yoghurts.

As for pain, go back to the dr and whinge and get better pills.
You'll find it improves though...........

Doctors seem reluctant to give good pain pills,no doubt different if it was them suffering.

680091 2008-06-21 04:12:00 At times it can be quite hard for the doctors to make up their mind as to the strength of the pain-killers to prescribe. Pain is one of the side effects that come along with inflammatory reaction as the body tries to get rid of the offensive stimuli. As such, excessive down-regulation of the inflammatory mediators by the use of pain-killers may not be such a good thing after all.

Cheers :)

I hope the situation will gradually improve for you, Beetle!

680092 2008-06-21 04:23:00 Slept better last night, but slept thro a time when i was normally taking more pain killers . . . . . . . . . . . . . so woke to discomfort . spray the throat with the numb spray stuff, waited till that worked, took all the pain killers i could, waited a few minutes and jumped into shower . . . . and had warm coffee when got out, and we rushed off to soccer . 3 hours come home, knackered, took pain killers, and went to bed . just had lunch . . . . . . . . lol a cheese toastie, soggy style, yum . starving .

tha pain is beggining to be managable, just finding i get tired easy because of lack of food intake . most of my friends work . my parents have been sick, and my sister was a way on a course and now she's on night shift, and kids can only do so much to help .

but yes each day is getting better . im never a patient person, and doing nothing is difficult, for me . but i can feel some of the breathing benefits already, no idea if my snoring has gone away, but i can breath in and out my nose, even tho i cannot safely blow it very well yet .

I dont think i had quite anticipated the amount of pain . i would say this is worse than labour, as it effects, breathing, drinking, eating, and talking, while labour does effect things, it seems to be over faster, more intense, but then its all over, where this has dragged on, and just functioning is a nightmare .

680093 2008-06-21 05:08:00 Hi Beetle,
hope the healing goes fast for you
Did you get a couple of black eyes from the operation? The reason I ask is, because my nose was broken in an accident, and a few years later had an op to reset the bone. They had to break it again to do that. And I got a lovely pair of black eyes as well.
I had the packed nose and all as well plus some plastercast over the nose, stuck to my cheeks with bandages. Not much pain though, except when I got home and sat out in the sun, - a fly kept annoying me so I swung my hand to scare it away but hit my nose in the process.

It's a bit late to give you advice about food now, but in future if you know you are going to have an operation, or whatever, and you're not up to cooking, rustle up some soup, cheese muffins, casseroles that are easy to digest and freeze them in single quantities. Then just throw them in the microwave. Tins of peaches go down well with the icecream as well.

Talkback shows on the radio are handy to listen to in bed, too.
Cheers

680094 2008-06-21 06:08:00 If I don't have an appetite through being unwell I usually find sweet things appertising. Cans of fruit with heated up canned rice, wine and arrowroot biscuits dunked in a hot beverage, tea, coffee etc.

680095 2008-06-22 07:57:00 I didnt have major bruises on my nose . or black eyes .

apparently if you break the bridge bone of your nose across that gives you bruises . but because they grafted, ground my nose internally length wise the bruising doesnt happen .
what they did was i had bone missing, and they needed to split the bone sort of half lenght wise, and then attached it to the end of the bone left, sloting it into place, and stitching it there . so the bones will fuse, and i wil have a strong base .
but everything is still swollen and tight and feels blocked so blowing it is not an option really yet . and it just aches . it looks absolutely normal from the outside, except when the sticthes where there .
the tip of the nose is sensitive and numbish .
my throat just feels scratchy now, and the glands aches a lot, and the pain ive had in my ears has been extreme . but that is getting better, and i dont wear my aids as much then, and im sleeping part of the day away anyway, tiredness is the killer, and boredom .

but i am eating some things, custard is good .

680096 2008-06-22 07:57:00 Codeine. Mmm Codeine. That stuff is very VERY good. See if you can get your hands on some....
...and can be dangerously addictive.

680097 2008-06-22 08:08:00 Although it is all very difficult to experience, the lack of sleep can be some of the worst (though see you had a better sleep recently). Sleeping pills these days are so much better than they were. Suggest you ask your GP for some. Should help at a crucial time !

680099 2008-06-22 20:49:00 The only problem with the nose was pulling the 3 metres of packing out. Tends to make ones mind focus on what's happening......... (a few dots in sympathy ;) ) Glad there was a 31 year gap!!!I had a similar op, twice, and understand what you went through. It felt like barbed wire being pulled through your nostrils, and when you consider that the nasal passages are so sensitive that even a speck of dust can make you sneeze... well it was excrutiating and blood spurted everywhere! :( Greg (193)
