680266 2008-06-19 07:16:00 Whatever problems there might have been at launch . . . . . Mozilla's Firefox 3 browser looks to be a rousing success . . . . . the impact immediately reflected in stats across the Web .

According to Spread Firefox's Download Day site, more than 8 million copies of the program were downloaded in its first 24 hours, well more than the target of 5 million .

At the moment, the download counter is rolling past 8 . 7 million, most . . . . of course . . . . going here to the U . S . (2 . 6 million) but the demand worldwide

150 downloads in the Aland Islands,
202 in Zimbabwe,
309 in Iraq,
260,802 in Iran
3 in New Zealand

The rate peaked @14,000 a minute Tuesday, and the first day, network statistics showed FF3 pulling 3-4% of the marke . Right now before FF3, FF2 is about 18% in market share .

IE still commands almost 75 percent of the market; it's development team could afford to be gracious about thenew baby .

Like with the launch of FF2, the IE folks sent over a layer cake, and after a virus scan . . . . was pronounced "consumed" .
