| 810257 | 2009-09-15 00:39:00 | I asked this one a couple of years ago, but it was never resolved, so I thought with the passage of time something may have come to light so Ill try again. Without going into great detail, what Im looking for is a device that will turn on a light by clicking an Icon on my Desktop. Ok, its not a light but if it will turn on a light then it will do what I want. So, the way I see it we need software to provide the Icon and instructions and hardware to effectively switch the light. Whether the Hardware is a pci card or a standalone box that is usb connected is immaterial. Ive tried some of the Home Security people and whilst they can do the job easily, they use their own specialised computer and software. Ok, its a bit left field but Im sure we could all think of a use for such a device. All input appreciated. :thanks |

Our home automation system we sell, and pretty much all the other brands as well, come with software for your computer which is used to program lights, blinds, relays, switches etc. I can walk around a house, that has one of our systems installed, with my laptop and turn lights on or off, adjust their brightness etc, open and close curtains or blinds, switch on or off HVAC systems etc etc. |

(at the place I've linked to you'll find Specs , manual + more) Actually the "thing" is also a plugin for Microsoft Windows Home Server (www.microsoft.com) - look at the midle of this page (www.microsoft.com) where it says mControl . The mControl should apparently run on the following O.S.' Windows Vista (x86,x64) Windows Home Server Windows XP Editions - Home, Pro, Media Center Edition 2005 Windows 2003 Server Windows 2000 Windows XP Embedded information source : mControl v2 Feature Summary (www.embeddedautomation.com(Home%20Edition)%20Summary.pdf) . Should you be interested then the Microsoft Windows Home Server (www.microsoft.com) software is relatively cheap and got many (other) possibilities also. I am setting up my own Microsoft Windows Home Server (www.microsoft.com) as soon as I get around to it (got all parts - just need assembly + installation) , I am however , at this point, not interested in the home control possibilities myself.) |

Dick Smith used to sell kits and Jaycar does: jaycar.co.nz However that only works if you have a parallel port and a lot of PCs don't have one now There may be a USB version of that somewhere... www.obdev.at (just add relays!) |
