809764 2009-09-13 05:47:00 Greetings all,

So we've just setup Win7 on my wifes new Toshiba laptop and it seems to be taking its time logging off, both in 32-bit and 64-bit.

Even after a clean install it seems to take its time, and we're not sure why. CPU / Memory usage is pretty minimal.

Now there's supposed to be new performance logs etc that tell us why its taking so long (And by this I mean its probably taking around 30 minutes), but I can't for the life of me figure out why.

Any ideas / suggestions? We've just done all the updates etc after installing the 64-bit version and I'm kinda baffled

Cheers

Chill.

809765 2009-09-13 06:20:00 Is it everytime? Sound like it could be a driver issue. I assume that when a user logs off all the unused drivers are shutdown or whatever but it could hang on one hueybot3000 (3646)
809766 2009-09-13 06:27:00 Yeah its *every* time...

On another note, same thing happened in 32 and now in 64-bit, sometimes she's missing some of her systray icons such as Sound / Safely Remove Hardware / Wireless Status (Even though she has sound and wireless is on / active / working).
Give it a reboot and they seem to come back...

Confused? I am :-/

809767 2009-09-13 06:29:00 Well that suggests even more that its drivers doesnt it? Did you install any manually or let windows do its thing?

Windows 7 not so perfect now?

809768 2009-09-13 06:44:00 Just tried to run the Win7 Experience Index refresher and it failed ... Graphics drivers Im wondering.

Its a Satellite Pro L300 2Ghz dual-core, 4GB Ram ... and the models underneath show:
PSLB9A-02K002 & PA3613U-1MPC

Problem is on the toshiba website there's like 30 different L300 pro models :p

809769 2009-09-13 07:48:00 You should be able to find the one you want by matching the exact model number

Also, have a look in the event log under Application and Services Logs>Microsoft>Windows>Diagnostics-Performance

If you run powercfg -energy in cmd it will create an HTML log listing any buggy drivers and abnormally hungry processes etc

Upload the log here when its done.

809770 2009-09-13 20:35:00 So I ran that on MY laptop and it worked fine.

Ran it on my wifes, and hers has been sitting there for several minutes now doing nothing (15 mins?).

You can see the missing systray icons in that screenshot.

This should be a .evtx file but imagef1 won't host it unless its a picture / txt file, so just rename it back ;)

809771 2009-09-13 20:43:00 Restart and it's back to this:

Seems to be every *second* time that it occurs.. It's also worth noting that it ran the powercfg -energy command :)

The logs in that area didn't change though ?

809772 2009-09-13 20:45:00 OK so as I said it's happening every 2nd time with the systray icons, and when the icons are *all there* it works. When they're not, it doesn't...

Logging off then back on works OK and every 2nd time the icons are either missing, or they return.

Now the problem only seems to occur when she logs off to shut down / restart. Hibernation appears to still work also.

Thoughts? :D

Can you post the created HTML file here then?
