809712 2009-09-13 06:43:00 Super (www.erightsoft.com), Any video converter (www.any-video-converter.com), and Quick Media Converter (http://www.cocoonsoftware.com/) should all do it for you  davidmmac (4619)
809713 2009-09-13 06:44:00 Hi B.M.
I use one called "Free FLV converter" (Google it)
Think that it only converts to .AVI though. & the files end up being very large, compared to what they were as FLV's.
Regards.

809714 2009-09-13 07:35:00 SUPER FTW!:D

If this is for youtube videos, then I would suggest using Anyvideo's inbuilt youtube tool:)

809715 2009-09-13 09:38:00 Thanks guys, no it wasn’t on youtube Blam it was just a 5meg file that was sent to me and none of the mates can’t open .flv files.

Anyway, I downloaded Super and it duly converted the file to .wmv which I wanted.

Only problem is the 5.6 meg file has blown out to 26.1 meg which is a little large to be E-Mailing to some of the friends.

Sooooo, any suggestions on how to reduce this .wmv file to a reasonable size that can be played on Windows Media Player, or is that it?

Whatever, I guess Super will come in handy again some time in the future. :D

:thanks again everyone for your help.

809716 2009-09-13 09:41:00 Try lowering the resolution, the bit rate or the frames per secound . davidmmac (4619)
809717 2009-09-13 22:00:00 Wainui mentioned XMedia Recode a while back, I've been using this for a while with great results. Very simple to use, not as powerful as something like Super but it's a lot easier to use.

just make sure you change the default language to English during the install. :punk

Here's (www.xmedia-recode.de) a direct link if you prefer...

809718 2009-09-13 22:18:00 There is also the free AVI MP4 WMV MP3 Converter 2.2 (www.softpedia.com) (can do batch conversion, and has a splitter) and you can play flv files in nFLV player (www.softspecialist.com). kahawai chaser (3545)

You wouldn't want to email 5.6MB anyways. Keep emails < 4MB

Upload it to a site like Yousendit (http://www.yousendit.com/) and give your friends the link.

You could shrink it by reduing the resolution and bitrate as suggested.

809720 2009-09-13 23:37:00 Well chaps, this has been a very interesting experiment.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but it seems to me that .flv formated files are already effectively as compact as you can get for media??

What interested me was “Super” actually improved the quality considerably when it converted a 5meg .flv file into a 26 meg wmv file.

Anyway, following your suggestions, I adjusted the bit rates etc using "Super" and did manage to convert the 5meg flv into a 5meg wmv, but lost video quality although the sound seemed the same.

I then tried XMedia and it changed the 5 meg flv file into a 17 meg wmv in about 100th the time it took "Super" and there was nothing wrong with the quality. Well, not on my computer screen anyway. :D

So, the conclusion I have come to is it would be much more expedient to have a Media Player that can handle a wide number of formats, rather than be mucking around converting the formats. ;)

To this end can anyone recommend one such Media Player? :D:thanks
