Your speakers are good enough that it is likely you will hear a difference between onboard sound and a separate soundcard. I have the logitech Z-5500 speakers, and I have used both the onboard sound (Realtek ALC1200) and my X-Fi Titanium sound card with them. Basically if I have the volume turned up and no sound playing I can hear a slight hiss using the Realtek, I don't get this with my X-Fi. I also find that the Realtek sounds a bit muffled/indistinct/muddy when compared to the X-Fi. Of course, the above is highly subjective, and you may not notice any improvements by upgrading to a separate soundcard. I'm no audiophile, and also have a mild hearing impairment, so feel free to take my opinions with a grain of salt. |

| 811544 | 2009-09-18 05:05:00 | I have the z-5500D speakers too, using onboard Cmedia 8738. That chip is used on some discrete soundcards, so I guess it can be considered a better onboard solution. As long as I use the rear outputs, the sound is fine. $x + $200 on speakers + onboard sound would give better sound than $x + $200 on sound card. |

To be honest I couldn't tell the difference. I'm not the most audiophile of people but I wouldn't bother. |

ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 Channel PCI Express 2.0 (does this work with PCI x1?) ASUS Xonar DS 7.1 Channel PCI PCI-E 2.0 means version 2.0 not x2 speed (2 lanes) Good cards though. Use the C-Media Oxygen chip. |
