I'm looking to get a 1TB SATA drive that I can hopefully chuck in my new computer (when I can afford it!) but for now will be getting an external case so that I can use it with my current setup (not SATA compatible). Basically I'm just looking for a cheap and reliable drive and from what I hear WD is the way to go. Have looked on pricespy and am a bit confused between all the different types... what is the difference between the GREENS and the BLUES and the BLACKS and Caviar GP and 7200rpm and 32M and SATA and SATA2?! What I'm looking for is the cheapest 1TB WD drive (including shipping to CHCH) that will be compatible with an external case and then can be installed internally in my new PC. Finally, any recommendations on a cheap to medium priced case that does the job without being too noisy? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance. |

Green should probably be fine for you, or you could get the seagate which is a bit faster and also quieter too(and cheaper by $30!): www.ascent.co.nz www.ascent.co.nz For a case, I recommend this: ascent.co.nz Fanless, but cools OK and is pretty much silent. So found this one which seems to be good value: www.pcmaster.co.nz Let me know if I'm on the right track, just thought I'd save $50 if I could. Case looks good although was hoping for something perhaps a little cheaper... Thanks again. |

If you for some strange reason should be just as well of temporarily with a SATA drive (if you can find one) as with a SATA2 drive then why buy a SATA (150MB/s) if you for very little more could get something (SATA2 - 300MB/s) that you would have the possiblity to use on faster solutions should you wish so in the future.... |

Otherwise, if the mobo only supports SATA 1, it wont recognise a SATA 2 hdd. Until you change it to SATA 1 mode. Which will make it run it at SATA 1 speed |

Which will make it run it at SATA 1 speed "Speedy" (you "Road Runner" ;) ) you overlooked that "JMoore" is going for an external drive (probably USB) because his PC do not support SATA at present ! |
