2009-09-15 09:38:00 | Anyone know where I can get a IDE 40-wire ribbon with a HD MALE plug with a standard HD female plug. It's wanted to join a docking station with a female termination to a DVD reader

2009-09-15 10:10:00 | why do you need a IDE cable to join a dvd reader to a docking station? No wait the question is are you sure that this can be done with and IDE cable? Sounds a little bit weird to me.

2009-09-15 21:23:00 | Not weird at all. I want to substitute a dvd reader for a cd reader in an enclosure in which the original cd docks directly in a femail socket. The replacement DVD reader is shorter and I need the cable to join the reader to the docking socket to allow the front plate of the DVD to align with the front of the enclosure. Hence the male 40-pin plug on one end and a standard female plug on the other end. Any short ribbon with this combination will do. Alternatively where can I get a male plug to fit to any ribbon.

2009-09-15 21:30:00 | And where's this docking thing going to sit?? Inside the case? I would use an 80 wire cable..If what youre trying to do, will work. Can you take a pic of what youre trying to achieve, and post it here (imagef1.net.nz) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |

2009-09-16 00:14:00 | Anyone know where I can get a IDE 40-wire ribbon with a HD MALE plug with a standard HD female plug . It's wanted to join a docking station with a female termination to a DVD reader To assemble an ide cable yourself takes a little skill or a tool if you don't want to break some of the small plastic clips on the side of the cable . You can probably get a loose 40 pin male plug from a well equipped electronics parts store . Anyway - I'm not from N . Z . and don't know my way around there , but I've found the cables and plugs you want on the internet , take a look at these links : . stores . yahoo . net/2440pinidedi . html" target="_blank">cablesonline . stores . yahoo . net . stores . yahoo . net/2in40pinidem . html" target="_blank">cablesonline . stores . yahoo . net . stores . yahoo . net/40pinmalidcr . html" target="_blank">cablesonline . stores . yahoo . net . stores . yahoo . net/40pinidedriv . html" target="_blank">cablesonline . stores . yahoo . net . stores . yahoo . net/ribcon . html" target="_blank">cablesonline . stores . yahoo . net Just found this also : Enter The Coupon Code C100 in the order form to save 5% on your purchase

2009-09-16 00:34:00 | I thought IDE cables had maximum length limits before they started introducing errors/reduced speed . . . And you seems to be right . . . Everyplace I've researced on the internet says that the specification for PATA cables (even 80 wire types) says that the maximum lenght is 18" !!! . A bit "funny" since longer cables have been sold , and I actually got some myself . However this page from Hitachi ( . hitachigst . com/hdd/support/cabling/deskstar . htm" target="_blank">www . hitachigst . com) clearly states that any lenght over 18" IS a transgression !!!!

2009-09-16 01:37:00 | I thought IDE cables had maximum length limits before they started introducing errors/reduced speed... So? If you need a cable longer than 18" you should change the case layout.

2009-09-16 02:32:00 | Hi Lindsay, I know exactly what you want, I bought some (40 way plugs) about 15 years ago, but I forget the name of the wholesalers off Willis St that sold them :groan: You can get 40 way IDC headers that solder onto pcbs that you may be able to cobble to an IDE cable. Jaycar have them. Otherwise it may pay you to ask Pudneys. If they dont have them then they may know someone who does. http://www.pudney.co.nz/
