| 681345 | 2008-07-01 09:31:00 | A friend of mine up north got a call from Vodafone to change from prepaid to a plan . This was last Tuesday . They accepted, then after speaking to me realised they'd made a huge mistake, and TWO HOURS later rang Vodafone to cancel and stick with Prepaid . In that two hours Vodafone had cancelled the Prepaid arrangement, their phone can no longer be used, and was told the new SIM card under the new plan would be posted . [ Assuming there was no cancellation, this 'customer' was still expected to be without a phone until the mail system provided them with a new SIM card ] . But they had 14-days to cancel, did so in two hours, and seven days later still do not have a phone to use . They have spoken to Vodafone at least three times every day for the last week, speak to a different person each time, and the only guarantee they can get from Vodafone is "yes, sorry . The system sucks but we can't change it' . They mentioned their phone is required for their son who rings from the U . K . Vodafone's response to this was 'send them a Kiwi-calling card' . Whatever the hell that is . I have always considered Vodafone to have the worse customer service of any organisation in NZ, worse even than Sky, and this confirms it . God knows when they are going to get their phone back . Anyway . . . . rant over . ;) |

| 681346 | 2008-07-03 03:49:00 | K, I've been switched over (happened yesterday afternoon). So far, not much to complain about. I was just browsing when suddenly the internet went down. I couldn't quite figure out what happened so restarted the modem (ended up doing this a few times). No luck, so I figured Vodafone must have switched me over but not informed me. Very bad customer service after all. Didn't want to call them, so I just guessed what to enter into the user name (luck it's as straightforward as username@vodafone.co.nz , I could never guess the .xadsl for xtra :S) and luckily I had my password (BUT the only reason I had this password was because I went to vodafone.co.nz a couple days ago and requested a password be sent to me - if I hadn't done this, I would probably still be on the phone with them, knowing their track record). * They really should have sent info about exactly what I should enter into my modem for when they switch me over, at least they should have sent the password somehow. - I still haven't received this Wireless modem that was promised, and as according to the 'Sign up Tracker' on the Vodafone site, it says I'm due to receive a D-link DSL-502T - that's not wireless at all, so it's either an error on the site or I'm going to have to call them (T_T) I don't really want to comment on speed till I actually get a new modem though, even if it's that crappy 502T once I got it, since that has newer firmware. I'm using an old Dlink DSL302g (no support for adsl2 at all), notorious for it's inferiority, none-the-less, I have been able to keep doing what i have been doing since the switch. I can still use my favorite torrent client (uTorrent, with port forwarding of course) and the downloads seem to be going much higher than they were before (hit 170 kbps, that's about as good as what I was getting on direct downloads on Xtra, with 128kbps upstream). Still have uploads capped at 20 kbps so I will have to test another torrent later with the uploads setting on automatic or unlimited or something. I still have to re-boot the modem every now and then, as it doesn't have enough RAM for frequent P2P'ing. The modem reports download of ~1900 and upload of 672, all interleaved - the downstream is pretty much the same as what I was getting with Xtra (was supposed to be max line speed, hopefully this isn't my max line speed :( ) but ofcourse upstream is a bit higher, at 672 vs ~132 as that was capped to 128 before. As for speedtest so far, www.speedtest.net reports speeds very close to what is reported by the modem, what impressed me here was international improvements. I done tests to AU/USA etc. and downstream for everywhere was always above 1000 kBps, upstream seemed to be stuck at around 300~400 for most places, but testing to NZ/AU, it was 400~600. Big difference for me, since my speeds were about a quarter slower to USA/UK before. Another good thing is direct downloads (rapidshare, megaupload etc.) shoot right up to 180~200 kbps very quickly (doesn't take a minute or more to 'accelerate' to those speeds if you know what I mean) and everything feels heaps more snappy, especially Youtube! I had gotten used to having to wait for buffer etc. but no more. I was astonished last night, as I was streaming Youtube perfectly (it had buffered quite far ahead so quickly) at 7pm, same thing with Youtubes 'high quality' stuff, was able to watch it all with no pauses. So far, reasonably happy, have been unable to verify whether I have unlimited or not though, but I sent myself some email to my Xtra address and glad to say I can still receive it. |
