681376 2008-06-24 00:38:00 If its someone who is just penny pinching and wants it all done for free,

The best ones are " My Mate/brother/ husband etc" Knows all about computers.......",

These are exactly the ones I am talking about. They basically just want instructions. Free of course.

681377 2008-06-24 01:40:00 Recommend that they get an Apple right away.

A most apt match-up.

681378 2008-06-24 02:29:00 What, with this news (s0.tx.co.nz)??? Maybe it would be poetic justice... johcar (6283)

They still have to install and enter admin details to run it. Ooooh I'm so scared.:p

I would be more worried about all the crap out there that infects Windows thana couple Mac trojans that need admin password to be installed.

681380 2008-06-24 08:17:00 Get an 0900 number .... that'll learn them :) Jester (13)
681381 2008-06-24 09:38:00 Remember these are potential customers - the best way to approach this is a gentle brush-off with an encouragement to bring the problem to the shop .

Then at least you have them in front of you (a sales opportunity), and if the issue is a simple one, a quick fix at no, or minimal charge will encourage them to come back next time . . . .

This approach will do wonders for word-of-mouth advertising too .

681382 2008-06-24 15:43:00 As a retired heavy duty mechanic (I'll get this to fit . . somehow), and when asked for free advice, I let them know that I've given up mechanics and taken up itinerant gynecology for a hobby .

But then again, I'm not trying to build another customer base either .

Been there . Done that . Quit it a few years ago .

One thing youse guys forgot is that there are a plethora of "Forums" like this one . . where all sorts of problems can be addressed .

Why not just tell them to register and become a member . . . after all, if they are gonna run Windows . . they will have to become an IT expert sooner than never anyway .

If people like:THE MOST REVERENT Sir Speedy and others of his ilk cannot fix it here . . . then they need professional help at their nearest tech shop .
