680543 2008-06-23 03:19:00 Providing you did services every 10,000Km as they normally suggest I would not expect any car to use ANY oil until it had done about 60-80,000Km.

That appears to be the general consensus. I don't replenish my oil between changes. My Nissan has just turned over 83,000. Must admit that it makes one a bit blasé, but I check it anyway.

680544 2008-06-23 03:54:00 Who's checking the oil? Don't let the service station guys over sell you.

Just because it doesn't reach the FULL mark on the dip stick when you're at the petrol station is no reason to put more oil in. When the car sits overnight and all of the oil has drained into the sump, the level will then be above the full mark and the car probably will burn oil. If the level is above the MIN mark when hot that's OK.

680545 2008-07-10 04:47:00 Thank you to all those who replied. Toyota NZ is taking the car back and will fix the problem. They suspect the rings. Once again thank-you to all you offered advice. AvonBill (11358)

680547 2008-09-10 22:24:00 I have just recevied a little more detail from the owner. Toyota NZ is replacing the "scoured" block and pistons. AvonBill (11358)
680548 2008-09-10 22:30:00 Ahaa.

just a guess here but i think that could have been caused by oil starvation? from a possible assembly fault?

anyway good to here they are going to sort it out for ya :D

680550 2008-09-10 23:29:00 For those of you who remember the Triumph 2000, I heard of a person who had a new one which was using alot of oil. It turned out that a conrod had not been cleaned properly after being cast and a little piece was left on, which stuck out cms beyond the edge of the piston and scored the bore.
