810433 2009-09-16 01:32:00 What sort of printing errors? The document doesn't print, and if you go into the print queue, it says "error-printing". If I reboot the document then prints without further intrervention when the reboot has completed.

I've tried all the obvious(to me) things - uninstalled/re-installed the printer, tried various different flavours of HP drivers - makes no difference.

I don't have another physical printer, so I can't do any comparisons in that direction.

The printer works fine under Vista, or as a shared printer under XP.

I've just done some experiments and found that I cannot share the printer with another PC running either XP or Win7 32-bit. The printer is recognised on the other nmachine, but it won't accept any printer driver I throw at it.

It will share Vista-XP.

810436 2009-09-16 02:46:00 Looks like the 1300 is a discontinued product. So, HP may not make drivers for Win7. Even if Windows 7 has built-in drivers for itI just looked on the HP website for what is definitely a current product, and they don't show Win7 drivers for that either, so maybe that is not the issue. 810437 2009-09-16 03:00:00 How many printer drivers have you installed then?? And how many are installed now?? If theres more than 1, uninstall all but the one for the printer. You dont install any printer driver, obviously it wont work if its not for the printer Speedy Gonzales (78)
810438 2009-09-16 03:05:00 Just had the same sort of problem with my wifes brother printer.

The fix that worked for me:

Disconnect printer from PC.

Run revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/) - locate the printer - uninstall - Select Advanced - When the uninstaller finishes, select NO if it asks for a reboot - click next, remove all reg keys it finds, remove all folders - reboot.

Download the vista Drivers - install printer.

That fixed it, simply over installing the drivers didn't work.

810439 2009-09-16 03:17:00 Hi there,

I am allowed to download Windows 7 Professional for free since Auckland University is part of the Academic Alliance Program.

www.msdnaa.net

They are only providing the x64 bit version of Windows 7 Professional at the moment and I am wondering whether it should be alright on my laptop.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Can I upgrade from Windows 7 RC to Windows 7 Professional or do I have to a clean install of Windows 7 Professional?

If I have to do a clean installations of Windows 7, will I have to install my drivers again? Or will it be in my windows.old file with all my other documents etc.

I'd prefer to do a clean installation since it will clean out my laptop and its much faster to install compared to upgrading.

810440 2009-09-16 03:39:00 You can do an upgrade by following this method:
www.intowindows.com

Might take a while. Took my desktop 3 hours.

You dont install any printer driver, obviously it wont work if its not for the printerI've only installed HP drivers for the Laserjet 1300. There are PCL5, PCL6 and Postscript drivers available, and also the HP "Universal driver". None of those have worked properly. I've only ever had one installed at one time - I don't have a whole bunch of miscellaneous non-existent printers installed! Tony (4941)
810442 2009-09-16 06:56:00 Thanks. Thats great to hear. I'll download it from the University today. How long did it take for you?

About 10-15mins
