And to make voice calls on mobiles to other mobiles. We do not want any more best mates, txt friends, family, dog etc etc. Just DROP THE BASIC RATE say 10 cents a minute per year ! They might find that people make more voice calls rather than texting. Vodafone is still $1.39 per min from a Vodafone to other networks mobile, on a standard non contract phone. Their data rates are $10 per 1 MB which is a hude price, although they are going to drop them 1000% soon, but they are ripping us off at the moment. Text messaging rates are also incrediably expensive, 20c for only a few bytes of sent data. |

I have a feeling that with decent mobiles and data rates that we may see a bit of a drop off in txting since the main reason that txting took off in the first place was because cellphone keyboards are CRAP for typing on but fine for txting which is also cheaper and faster on current rates. The new style keypads and keyboards on smart phones are much easier to type short messages on and smart phone prices are coming down to where basic mobile phones prices are. |

A pity the iphone doesn't have chat, it relies on txt messaging, so I think the reverse could happen, and text messaging may become more popular. The thing is unlike normal chat on a PC, you have to pay 20c each time for each chat post on an iphone. I guess that is one reason apple haven't added chat, they want to keep the mobile companies happy. |

I am over in the US at the moment on holiday, and got a sim card for my phone (vodafone's global roaming prices are simply outrageous). granted, they are a bit cheaper to make calls and send txt's (US10c/txt and up to US33c/min) HOWEVER, it also costs 5c/txt to RECIEVE a text, and your calling rate applies to incoming calls as well as outgoing... So it all works out to be not thaaat much cheaper. |

Apple is working on the chat feature - they have patented quite a bit of stuff so it looks like it will be appearing in due course. My guess is that they are setting do down the base course and while gradually build out the platform over time by adding stuff like iChat (for Windows also) possibly with the iPhone v3. Apple are also working towards 4G iPhones as they will be designing their own chips having recently purchase a CPU design company for $278 million. |

| 681688 | 2008-06-25 08:04:00 | It is time you took the chip off your shoulder Ken and posted something intelligent, at your age you should be setting an example for some of the others here. Your numerous Spam Ban posts do nothing but encourage others to make equally pointless posts. | Safari (3993) | ||

Your numerous Spam Ban posts do nothing but encourage others to make equally pointless posts. At my age?? What has age got to do with it? Reminds me of a teacher I had once, you saying that. Age is not a prerequisite of intelligence Safari. We have plenty of people in the world who fail the test. Look at that old coot Mugabe. Prime example if I may be allowed to say so. Chip on my shoulder? Don't think so. Had you thought of the possibility that a lot of us here are laughing at him. You know, really taking the piss out of him. I have this strange thought of what he might be like. Profiling, you might say. I keep coming up with the thought of the dimensions - 4 foot 2 inches high, 3 foot 6 inches wide. And that's just his mouth.. :D Can't visualise anything else. Probably a blessing, hey what? With laughter Ken |
