| 681325 | 2008-06-23 04:18:00 | What about the 'fair usage policy' though Paul? I can see Go Large all over again.... Very true. Considering that to your average Joe on the street, "fair usage" would be described as as much as I can download in a day. Where as to Vodafones legal eagles "fair usage" could be descibed as how much we think you should be allowed. he said vs what she said. Must admit that having had a look at those plans, they don't actually look to bad for the moment  Just wait for Telecom to get its **** together near the end of the year and see if that has any effect on the pricing. I see Telstra OZ is going to get the iPhone shortly as well. Kinda funny considering their CEO was quoted as saying that "Apple should stick to its knitting" - wonder whose eating crow now eh ;) |

They largely currently have unlimted plans, but they will phone those users who use over 50GB per month, to either pay more or find another provider. |

| 681327 | 2008-06-23 05:40:00 | As I said, I don't know if any of our reps ARE selling an unlimited plan, but it wouldn't surprise me as it's a case by case, door by door kind of offer to see what customers are after. So I can't tell you what the T&C are for it, if it exists. As an aside, RobbyP is quite right: US telcos are moving away from "unlimited" plans because of course they never WERE unlimited... instead they tended to be "unlimited*" which is quite different (where the * leads you to a maze of limits). Cheers Paul |

Cheers Paul Plus telecom did get in trouble for their unlimited go large plan not long ago, which wasn't really unlimited. NZ consumer laws make it so if something says it is unlimited, it really has to be, and there can't be special terms hidden away in fine print of the T&Cs, that it isn't really unlimited. eg, any terms regarding unlimited must be very clear. In the US they can get away with it , as their consumer laws are different from NZs |

The changes are creating quite a bit of an uproar amongst users who are used to unlimited downloads every day of movies and songs on their reasonably priced data plans too. Ouch. |

| 681330 | 2008-06-23 07:58:00 | Hi I got a call from a call center regarding vodafone services and how they can improve the service with cheaper rates. After telling him what i currently have with telecom and how much i pay for Internet+line rentals+toll calls incl national and mobile from landline to 027,021,029. he came up with a deal of $105 which includes UNLIMITED Broadband Line rentals landline to any mobile for 38C per min. my ph number doesnt change nor my email address and i still get to use the 0161 line for international calls. i repetitively asked him about broadband and said does your UNLIMITED mean unlimited downloading? no data cap? and he said YES. i still dont belive it. what you guys think? did anyone else got a call? hey there, i got the exact same thing happen! i asked him so many times about the broadband, because i have checked their plans the previous week and didn't see anything at all about that, i kept asking him about speeds too. he said everytime, fully unlimited and max/max speeds. so i signed up :) he said twice, the call is recorded, so i figure its recorded and we can refer to it if when i'm switched that i find it isn't what was promised. none the less, its better than what we have with telecom and cheaper too. They said they'll also send a wireless modem/router, so I can finally tidy the desk a little (currently have crappy w/less router plugged into crappy modem). he also promised the phone number won't change, nor the email. apparently they will be using redirection to ensure this, i didn't think telecom would allow them to hold onto that address as they're a competitor and i'm moving to them and thats bad for business and all, maybe they are paying $$ to telecom just for this. this is sure reassuring, knowing that someone else got the same call. they did ask for some details and at points i got a little suspicious, that it was maybe some kind of scam but didn't give them anything they can do much with. oh, and apparently it should be adsl2, that's automatic win for me, on 2mb/128kb currently and paying heaps more so yeah... should be a week and a half till i'm connected. i'm actually excited to see what its going to be like, telecoms exchange here sucks, they say vodafones already put in some new equipment for their own red network which should be heaps better. Was it made from an india or asina call centre.? Ask for the deal in writing. I wouldn't trust Vodafones marketing, as in their terms, they say they can change their pricing at any time. If it i got my call from a very enthusiastic sounding kiwi guy, easy to understand and just pushing enough to make to get the sale, but not pushy enough to piss you off. thats good telemarketing. and yeah, i asked about whether he was confusing unlimited with any other plan and he was very clear that he wasn't. i suppose there must be some kind of fair use policy, but then again, i am on the telecom GO Large plan still, so what do I care :P if its just as restrictive, but faster than thats great. and imo, the fair use policy i have found to be very fair, or too fair. i have chewed through far more than allowed many a time and telecom dont do anything it. *note he did only mention the unlimited plan after i told him what plan i was on, as initially he was offering only something like a 10gb cap. They really are doing well it seems. Some of my family have also received calls and are due to change over soon. |

Sounds interesting, although their customer support isn not the best. I wouldn't choose anything just because it is simply the cheapest. Just wondering what you will do if they can't actually forward your existing @xtra.co.nz email address to a new one. Xtra would be well within their right to prevent them forwarding your email to another email address. Once you cancel an xtra account, you do lose teh xtra email addresses, unless Vodafone will be paying xtra to continue to use the email address for you to use. Just because they are recording the call, doesn't mean that they will make the recording avaliable to you, incase of a dispute. They probably record it, so they can prove that you agreed to signup verbally. |
