680824 2008-06-21 11:09:00 I have been accessing my ANZ Internet Banking

Now I know banks are conservative by nature, but I would have thought they would grasp security enhancements provided by more recent iterations of popular browsers with both hands and force their customers to use the most secure version of the browser of the customers' choice!!

What? Like using a particular browser makes you safe.
More to the point making sure your PC hasn't been compromised should be the priority.

Agreed, but it seems every other week there's an announcement that yet another security hole has been found (usually in IE) that 'if used, would allow a malicious user access to your PC'. Some browsers ARE more secure than others. And M$ is a favourite target of malicious attacks because it is ubiquitous.

Banking sites are supposed to be very secure (it's your hard-earned cash after all!), but security flaws that allow malicious users access to your machine, and therefore potentially to your bank accounts should be of concern to all browser users and the banks that provide portals to their systems via a browser.

vitalstatistix is correct in that most banks (and most corporates) concentrate their efforts on IE for their web apps, relying on their own firewalls and security measures to prevent problems. The phrase around eggs in a basket comes to mind....

680826 2008-06-21 18:16:00 Online banking security involves 3 factors
human sensibility against phishing attacks*
a secure web browser
a secure OS

* it doesn't matter what OS you are using you will be a victim since giving away your details is just asking for trouble.

680827 2008-06-21 20:42:00 I have been accessing my ANZ Internet Banking site with Opera 9.27 (and earlier versions), without any issues for a substantial length of time.

When I tried with Opera 9.5, I got logged out before I even got into my account information.

I use the ASB with no problems with Opera 9.5..

This sort of thing is one of the reasons earlier versions of Opera allowed you to masquerade as another browser such as IE .
( I can't see this option in the current version )

Some sites would allow you to access them when you identified as IE but not as Opera .
