810423 2009-09-15 11:47:00 So the x86 version is the same as the x32 bit version .

Didn't know that .

Thanks very much!!

Are you doing a Computer Science degree at UOA?
Also, can the Uni provide a copy for me or do I have to download it from home . My broadband at home isn't very fast and I'm limited to usage .

Nah, I do IS at the Business School . Of course, just get it from MSDNAA at Uni; hardly takes anytime at all :)

810424 2009-09-15 12:03:00 mmmm not sure about that. Got Vista 32bit with SP2, under properties it sees 4GB of RAM but under task manager > performance its only using 3GB

Thats because its talking about RAM only, and doesn't include memory from your video card and other things..

810425 2009-09-15 12:19:00 I've had a problem with my HP Laserjet 1300 on 64 bit Win7 using both the Win 7 supplied drivers and the Vista 64 bit drivers. The printer prints OK for a bit, then I get printing errors until I reboot.

The response I got from HP support (after getting me to try various things and being quite helpful) was to "look out for the Win 7 drivers on the website." Well, they're not there yet.

810427 2009-09-15 21:56:00 Actually, a 32-bit OS can't even address 4GB, in most cases only about 3GB or sometimes a little more. Windows will however, since Vista SP1, show the actual amount of RAM (in this case 4GB) in System Properties, regardless of whether it is actually able to use it all.

RAM is only one item that is included in the total memory addressed by an OS.

810428 2009-09-15 22:03:00 Looks like the 1300 is a discontinued product. So, HP may not make drivers for Win7. Even if Windows 7 has built-in drivers for it Speedy Gonzales (78)

Can you not use a generic HP driver (from Win7) for that printer?

810431 2009-09-16 00:55:00 Can you not use a generic HP driver (from Win7) for that printer? That shows exactly the same behaviour.

I'm not going to give up on the printer until I get a production copy of Win7 and do a clean install. Apart from the occasional meltdown issue with Win 7, it is actually a pretty good little printer.
