682184 2008-06-29 04:43:00 How much money did the Maori lose?

Perhaps they should just be thankful their fore fathers were dragged out of their primitive culture and into the modern world. Which enables them to now be the professional victims they insist on being, and to blame everyone for their non-ability to kick the cultural traits that see them rank so highly in crime and anti-social statistics.

"Dragged"...? Quite a derogatory characterisation - which has little to do with history - especially pre-Treaty. Either you don't know about, or are avoiding mentioning, the trans-Tasman merchant shipping that northern Maori initiated in the early 1800s.

Are you thankful for their willingness to enter into a Treaty with the British Crown at a time when they vastly outnumbered Europeans both militarily and in simple population terms - because they saw the opportunities and genuinely wanted European settlement to take place?

682186 2008-06-29 06:09:00 Nope, never heard of it, is it an academic invention?

I'm thankful for the hard work of every New Zealander that has contributed to the society we all enjoy today. Pity its being squandered and abused.

You just said "Perhaps they should just be thankful their fore fathers..."

"They"...? Are "they" New Zealanders? Have any of "them" contributed to the society we all enjoy today?

Yes, all of them are New Zealanders, though some within their own ranks claim otherwise.

And yes, Many of them have contributed to our society, and some have acted against it, Not that I would consider them a seperate part of society apart from the fact they work so hard to make it so.

682189 2008-06-29 17:39:00 I am a New Zealander and consider myself to be so as I was born in Wellington NZ.

Back to claims as to airspace over Rotorua I would think that Maori in general should have no claim as to that for reasons I have already stated.

Probably the whole of the Maori should sue Microsoft for publishing images of NZ Flight sim versions. JJJJJ should think about which aircraft he flies out in and where from along with the landing point otherwise there may be a knock on the door wanting X$ or a koha. I might even get a door knock at my place for similar reasons.

Next time an aircraft is above my place I should be able to claim I guess becuase I paid for the land and house I live in.

I am not trying to stir the pot as such but trying to see how Maori in general benefit from claims and the money or land that is derived.

My point is that the Treaty (when written) was not signed by a number of tribes and presumably did not envisage the invention of aircraft or TV for example. Now we have Maori TV but we also have Te Karere on TV 1.
From what I see and hear about Maori TV it seems to be a useful channel.

Historians do not really know what gives so how am I able to find the truth?

A few years ago my Wifes daughter married a Maori and after applying for a birth certificate for a drivers licence he discovered that what he thought was his Mother was actually his Grandmother.

I recently checked this site:-
www.teara.govt.nz

It would appear to me that no person actually knows so therefore I should probably just get on with life and keep on paying taxes as usual. This would help toward paying for claims and also admit quite a few Maori work and also hopefully pay taxes which would also go toward paying for claims.

682191 2008-06-29 19:48:00 Can we deduct 1 million dollars for every murder a Maori person commits.

And could they please set up a fund that pays out in full, victims restoration and hurt etc to all crime committed by Maoris.

I think the rules as interpreted by some would argue you should not suggest a whole race are being naughty.
Even though that may be the case.
