682174 2008-06-28 03:58:00 I keep on with Ngai Tahu because I live in Chch and have also looked closely at their settlement and current structure while at university here a few years ago.

I also believe that if you were as concerned about this matter as you make yourself out to be - then you would put effort into informing yourself about the matter - rather than expecting a list of answers to your list of questions. There are much better sources from which you can draw information about settlements than an internet forum.

Sigh.

I have put effort into getting information but as I have said I guess it depends on which historians and whom you actually believe. It also comes down to interpretation of documents and how they may be understood by people in general.

I have sourced information from other sites apart from this forum including crime and health statistics from Government and they do not look good for Maori as a whole.

I do not make myself out to be concerned. I am concerned.

My apologies Sweep, I should have said that I was referring to the information about how Maori are benefitting from settlements that their Iwi have received - as that was the question you were asking a lot.

682176 2008-06-28 09:22:00 Pretty normal for the University trained to be unable to correlate it with the grass roots reality.

Still, They remain convinced they hold some sort of enlightenment denied others.

What has your remark got to do with the topic, exactly, Metla?

682177 2008-06-28 11:09:00 Its a reference to black and white views based on a few years in a class room.

Hugged any criminals into turning over a new leaf lately?

So, can I infer that you see your own views as balanced because of having spent no years in a classroom?

I don't see my views as being any better or worse than yours. They're just my views.

Hugged any criminals into turning over a new leaf lately?

No. Why do you ask? Whether I have hugged any criminals lately seems to have little to do with Treaty claims.

You may find a wall more enlightening than our would be lawyer.

682180 2008-06-28 23:50:00 There are many ways to insult a person . Just because you favour the subtle random comment style, this does not mean it is any more acceptable than the blatant insults .

If you cannot stick to the topic of discussion rather than discussing a particular member in derogatory manner, then don't post it .

Like the *real* world there are people whose style/type/behaviour/personality whatever, irritates you . In the *real* world you would simply ignore them or avoid associating with them .

Guess what? You can do the same here . If someone is raising your blood pressure them simply block them; you do not have to read their posts . You can completely ignore their comments . You have that option, so use it .

682181 2008-06-29 00:11:00 I'm confused, Not only is this the most civil thread ever made on the subject in the history of the internet, I would have thought everyones blood pressue was fine, A bit of thrust and parry is all part of a good healthy debate. Metla (12)
682182 2008-06-29 00:21:00 So how much money did the Maori receive and who paid for it exactly?

Why don't we just tell them to **** off? Then what would they do about it?

682183 2008-06-29 04:37:00 So how much money did the Maori receive and who paid for it exactly?

How much money did the Maori lose?

Treaty claims are not usually just based on Treaty breaches - often they are land deals between Crown and Maori in which the Crown acted utterly dishonestly and/or failed to honour their promises .

That word "honour" is extremely important . More than any other thing, a government draws its authority from this concept . It has no mandate to govern unless it is governing honourably . If it can be shown that it has engaged in dishonourable practice or misfeasance then it must make good on that dishonourable act .

Why don't we just tell them to **** off? Then what would they do about it?

Who, exactly, is "we" . . . ?
