682154 2008-06-27 05:18:00 Cracks me up how many already claim to be Maori with all their English features and blonde hair, where do you draw the line?

To benefit from an Iwi's resources, you usually have to show whakapapa. In other words, it's about family, not race.

682155 2008-06-27 05:49:00 So in the event we had a Market gardner in Wanganui who had the land taken over by the Crown to put a new road through then that may give rise to claims even though that person may have originated in India.

Probably would not happen under the Treaty of Waitangi I would think. Could be an injustice though.

682156 2008-06-27 05:53:00 I believe Jonh H included a link to the website of Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu. There is plenty of information there if you want it.

Whom is Jonh H. Another example of misinterpretation I think.

So its not a maori thing? Im pretty sure it is.... or is just cleverly worded?

Anyways, I should be enjoying the benefits, but rather stay away as in my eyes its just a sham.

682158 2008-06-27 08:49:00 Imagine if they gave every maori a million bucks....

They'd blow the lot on pokies.

682159 2008-06-27 09:51:00 I'm no expert, but I believe that historians refer to sources as primary, secondary and so on. A primary source might be a document about the thing in question for instance, and so on.
I don't have a lot of faith in historians because years ago a certain historian borrowed some papers etc. from my grandmother and in his acknowledgements he said thanks to the late Mrs _____ and she wasn't even dead and to add insult to injury he never returned what he had borrowed. If they can't get the present right how much faith can you have in them for history.

That's very unprofessional, to say the least. Was he connected with a university or any organisation that you could complain to?

Kind of reminds me of a remark of the late footballer, George Best.

"I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds, and fast cars - the rest I squandered"
