683302 2008-06-28 11:01:00 You can hate all you like but there's no doubting Microsoft and its market share across all sorts of markets. Even detailing every single miss in the history of Microsoft couldn't. sal (67)
683303 2008-06-28 11:22:00 Never under estimate MS - some of the programs run on MAC's are developed my MS. Heres a Job for ya! (macdailynews.com) Quote from article - "So, if you can't get a job at Apple, Microsoft's MacBU is hiring for multiple roles" wainuitech (129)

Well.no, not really.
First there was Xerox who invented most of it, then there was Apple, then MS nicked it.

683305 2008-06-28 11:45:00 Interesting IMO - Xerox pioneered the GUI, then Apple stole it and MS from them.

BUT Microsoft gets all the bad press about copying apple.

One thing I also find interesting was, Windows ME was designed quickly and released as a teaser of XP and was a complete flop - but Vista was released as a a fully featured version (and you'd hope so after 5 years!) not a teaser of Win Se7en (AFAIK) - and was still a flop.

:groan:

Still, I'm a MS-only man (plus FF of course) :D

683306 2008-06-28 11:48:00 I was thinking of Office - MS still develop it to run on MAC's, call it business - MS have lots of "clout", weather it be marketing or what ever, windows is still has the highest percentage of OS's on the world market. Maybe if the MAC software/hardware was cheaper they would have more users.

Mind you if MS made everything perfect lots of us would be out of a job, so lets hope they don't "get it right" to soon.

Have you ever noticed the Apple adverts on TV - all they do is rubbish Windows - gee how original, I dont think I have ever seen an advert the other way around.

683307 2008-06-28 11:57:00 Windows sucks, I'll get rid of it the minute something better comes along. Metla (12)

I saw that listed earlier. For the record the two BIGGEST hits for Bill were licensing and Office. They will continue to bring in the billions until the end of time.
Apple didn't exactly "steal" the GUI from XEROX - according to folklore the Apple engineers heard about or were shown the GUI which was under developement at XEROX PARC who didn't realise the significance of what they had at the time. The Apple engineers managed to convince Steve to go and see it for himself which he did...the end result some months later in January 1984 was The Macintosh.( that is the condensed version)

MS gets the bad press about copying from Apple because although MS is supposedly "great" with code - they are clueless when it comes to understanding the end user and GUI design - something Apple has always had a handle on thanks to Jeff Raskin en.wikipedia.org

683309 2008-06-28 21:50:00 I was thinking of Office -

Its interesting how many people don't know the history of PCs and their related apps.

Concepts and ideas of Word were brought from Bravo, the original GUI word processor developed at Xerox PARC.

683310 2008-06-28 22:50:00 the two BIGGEST hits for Bill were licensing and Office. They will continue to bring in the billions until the end of time. That says it all really - its called business, and as we all know business is not always fair./ honest.

This a comment was quoted from my post -

You are right many dont - I know where Office came from, but can't see the point of dragging up what came from where. Every software manufacture gets different ideas/ processes from other places - why reinvent the wheel so to speak.

Doesn't matter what OS is used by whom, someone will be negative about it, every OS has its faults - just a fact of life.
As mentioned before it they were perfect there would be no need to have people fixing computers- we would be all out of jobs.
