Do you think we will have what the Americans had? You know, a whole bunch of controversy and all those court dealings?

I really hope not, because if we do I might have to migrate to Mars or something.

683244 2008-06-28 08:12:00 Doubtful. Religious instruction is controversial enough in our schools let alone a religious evolutionary theory. Especially one which flies in the face of science.

The American system is complicated by their Constitution which guarantees freedom of speech. Thus in America you can argue that your ideas should be taught even if the majority of teachers and citizens are against them. Seems odd to us but it's a direct consequence and a good example of why the Constitution isn't the wonderful set of rules people think.

683245 2008-06-28 11:34:00 I believe it would be only reasonable to give equal credence to these palestinian folk tales as any other tales from other cultures- like hey we are all borne upon a turtle upon an elephant's back upon a whatnot and carryon. Or hey, the breath given by an avergarbanonod.
Who knows? Who gives a ****? We're animals on a lump of rock. Grow up and stop crying out for mummy.

683246 2008-06-28 17:27:00 Ya know . . . it's not quite like you say .

First . . . a little US history .

The country was founded as a direct result of getting away from aristocracy and kings, dukes, queens (well, not maybe in San Francisco) . . . and other odious forms of religious-licensed government .

The catch phrase here was the declaration that the place was to be "Under God" . . and that's where the British aristocracy blew it .

The American declaration was modeled after the Christan/Judean God as a sterling example of forgiveness and love . Unfortunately, that very same God would hold them accountable now for failing to adhere to His standards to which they so proudly (yet failing-ly) ascribe themselves .

So, the new freedoms booted out the olde ways of Briton and it's allies (alternately: France, Denmark, Norway, India, Palestine, Israel, Spain, Germany, back to France, then Spain again, then the US-Israeli figurehead) .

With the COE and simony with the Popes and other religio-zealots who made whole countries heed to the monarch's "god-of-the-week" philosophy, it was a breath of fresh air to allow anyone . . . no, make that everyone . . the right to choose and worship as they sought .

Here, you have the right to:

go to church
open your own church
not go to church
convert your house/tent/tree to a church
apply for tax-free, non-profit church-type status with the IRS (not the IRA)
play rock music in church (if the church regularly uses such music)
contemplate your navel, feet, anus, hair clippings
make objects of adoration from toenail clippings, amputated appendages, afterbirth, oils and potions derived from venerated people/persons/spirits and venerate pictures on velvet with eyes that seem to follow you about the house
channel Hollywood celebrities (ie: Carol Channing or Jane Fonda)
receive communion from your housepets
give communion to your housepets and/or houseplants
bless sheep, cats, birds, dogs, trees and/or flowers
worship stains on the carpet or shapes of individual flakes from your breakfast cereal
see god . . . everywhere!
ride through the desert on a horse with no name
wait for a flying saucer (the one hiding behind the Hale-Bopp comet)
attend throwing fertile clams at the moonrise church service
watch/listen to radio/television preachers
send money to the above tele-evangelists
wear makeup like your favorite female evangelist
go naked for god
paint yourself blue, yellow, pink or saffron-colored
play finger cymbals and dance in airports
toss down a carpet and bow on a street corner (not blocking foot traffic of course!)
preach on street corners, parks, beaches, valleys, canyons, mountain tops
talk about your/their/someone else's church,
handle snakes in your church (devout members only)
declare yourself as god, a god or the God . . . . .

or an angel
or a witch
or a warlock
or a seer
or a prophet/fortune teller
or Satan or any of his minions

. . . 29 . be an atheist,
. . . 30 . be an agnostic,
. . . 31 . be a tv star or evangelist-preacher
. . . 32 . be driven in a stretch limo to/from you chapel/church/vacation homes paid for by your congregation
. . . 33 . be Carl Sagan or channel him,
. . . . . . . . . . . . or selectively ignore any of the above .

What you CANNOT DO is the following, but there may be more rules of which I am not privy:

burn a church that you don't like . . . either rhetorically or physically with real fire
shoot atheists even with a registered weapon
shoot agnostics even with a registered weapon
shoot the Pope even with a registered weapon
limit preaching to things you like to hear
shoot preachers unless they shoot at you first (gun registration NOT required for this)
practice cannibalism, no matter if it's a Eucharist or not
start up another Crusade like in olden tymes
actually harm the fertile clams in the moon/sun worship unless you have them on the half shell later at a congregation BBQ
hang, waterboard or BBQ heretics or their pets/houseplants
fire-brand harlots, rumormongers, wagging tongues, witches/warlocks or adulteresses (like in "The Scarlet Letter")
toss virgins into volcanoes (volcanoes are federally protected)
eat live, beating human hearts (Not too sure about animal hearts though . See: BBQ exclusion above in #9)

It may sound callous and unfair, but I will never give these pro-IDs a chance to teach their unscientific and frankly, despite what they claim, religious theories in science classrooms. I'm not having my little brother learning religious crap disguised as science. I don't want him, or any kids today and in the future to be misinformed about what science really is.
