682614	2008-06-26 16:05:00	The US Supreme Court has struck down a long-standing ban on guns in Washington DC . The Court made the decision just before it's 3-month vacation, making it pretty hard for anti-gun activists and Hollywood stars to form an appeal . The law adopted by Washington's city council in 1976 bars residents from owning handguns unless they had one before the law took effect . Shotguns and rifles may be kept in homes, if they are registered, kept unloaded and either disassembled or equipped with trigger locks . Opponents of that law have said it prevents legal-acting and law obeying residents from defending themselves . The Washington government says no one would be prosecuted for a gun law violation in cases of self-defense . Criminals, of course, have and use weapons to fatally shoot quite a few DC citizens all year long . It is the single most heavily armed (illegally, by criminal-types) area in the US . You've gotta remember that Washington DC is NOT a state . It is a co-operative property (The District Of Columbia ( . wikipedia . org/wiki/District_Of_Columbia" target="_blank">en . wikipedia . org)) dedicated by the surrounding states to create a zone or set aside area for the US government to reside . This decision will likely set appeals for the removal of the "Sullivan Act" that stands in New York, New York and other states that have infringed on owning guns by CITIZENS . I see this as something more than just handgun and hunting weapons possession though . Since the law applies to US CITIZENS, I think they are going after the illegal aliens who have or use guns . Right now . . . a NATURALIZED alien can possess a shotgun if the barrel is over 18 inches long and may NOT own any concealable weapon of any kind . This law is vaguely enforced and most times the illegals have a large cache of weapons at their disposal . . . more than a legal US citizen usually has . Naturalization is not automatic, as some assume . It must be applied for and a battery of investigations and a length of time is required by the applicant to get to the NATURALIZED plateau . They may not be a felon or have any immoral arrests for them to qualify . If they entered the country illegally, they are to return to their original entry-country and apply for immigration status from there first . I know . . . it sounds like a tough and long action . . . but they overrun the US with illegals who bring their illegal actions and lifestyles from the country that they left with them . They don't register their vehicles, insure them of obey the laws in the first place . <off soapbox now> Now, I personally own no weapons, although (and not wanting to become an activist here) I think owning one - in and of itself - is not illegal, immoral or illogical . My choice to not own any is purely because I don't want to pull the trigger on anyone . I have some ex-military friends who have shot enemy, and they are not the same as before the incident . I would be haunted with the sight of a person dropping dead by me shooting them . During time of war . . . even if you can somehow justify it, shooting another human modifies you somehow . . . and that's a place I choose to not go . Anaheim, California seems to enjoy the lowest crime rate in the US because the police look the other way on a homeowner or renter having a loaded weapon in their domicile . The incidents of "break-and-enter" and cat burglars robberies are almost zilch there . See any correlation? A Link of something that just happened in Anaheim .
