682391 2008-06-25 08:02:00 Hi, Just received an email from Telecom offering me a free "security suite". It is a McAfee product. They say I must delete all other antivirus products. Just wondered if anyone out there had tried it. gradebdan (2186)
682392 2008-06-25 08:12:00 Dont try it. Stick with a good combo like Avast + Comodo. beeswax34 (63)
682393 2008-06-25 08:24:00 McAfee does an *ok* job at keeping you protected - but it is so bloated. And the firewall is crap.

Beeswax's suggestion is the way to go.

Telecom and McAfee. Sounds like some kind of an industrial dispute involving a terminal go-slow.

It is a good enough product, and it is free for telecom internet users, where otherwise you have to pay $100 for it. It is not as bloatware as nortons.

I used it and paid for it but I found it does not work under WinXP Pro 64 bit.
I wonder if it works under Vista Ultimate 64?

Will check this out.

682397 2008-06-25 11:58:00 I now note that 64 bit versions of the O/S Vista are not supported. Sweep (90)
682398 2008-06-25 21:32:00 Take it if you really need it, but otherwise a better free combo in Avast & Comodo has already been suggested. autechre (266)

No - it's not good enough. It doesn't work nearly as well as Avast. Many a virus infected McAfee Machine I've cleaned out.

What - you don't have to pay for it, don't buy it!

It is a very close 2nd to Nortons Bloatware. I think on a whole, McAfee actually slows a PC down more than nortons.

Neither of them are as bad as PcCillin though. :yuck:

682400 2008-06-26 01:57:00 They should be paying you to take it :D

Saying that, I've never used McAfee before - and since it's free I'm going to give it a whirl just to see how bad it really is
