| 812321 | 2009-09-21 02:15:00 | Afternoon all, got a lappy here with an interesting issue, long and short of it is I want to be able to check CPU running temps without booting into Windows (notebook won't) and the BIOS does not have a hardware monitoring function. Any ideas? :thanks |

Though that's not that different to actually booting to windows, heh. Basically, if the BIOS doesn't report it, you're gonna have to boot to an OS of some sort. |

Yeah it's a Compaq with pretty much no BIOS :lol: Can change the boot order and VGA memory size and that's about it. Will try a BartPE boot cd, good idea. |

| 812326 | 2009-09-21 07:11:00 | not uncommon for compaqs not to have sensors at all. stick a temp gauge sensor (ie k type) on the part you want to check. obviously a bit tricky with cpu etc but not impossible. |

| 812329 | 2009-09-22 00:44:00 | BartPE had speedfan, but it was a slightly older version and didn't see the sensor. Managed to get into windows and the latest version of speedfan saw the CPU. Gave me the info I needed, the CPU running at over 70deg on idle would have been causing issues. Thanks for the help. :thumbs: | wratterus (105) | ||
