2008-07-08 17:23:00 | I like it, I like it a lot. Anyway, Back to Beetles neighbourhood dispute. If you are going to visit Beetle's neighbours I would suggest you wear boots rather than slippers of a pink variety. Just my humble opinion.

2008-07-08 21:42:00 | the mediation offer hasnt happened yet. been watching the dogs more today, and they either bark when someone comes to the front door........... or when they think something is next door ......... unless i go way up the back i cant see over the fence...... so cannot tell if anyone there or not. dogs went burko before barking and growling like something was out there, on that side............. they normally very placid........... and loves every one to death including the cats.... beetle:confused: Sounds to me that the home security system / protection is working as it should, the highlighted text in your quote - charge them for security when they are not home - my dog does the same, next door neighbors love it, their elderly dog has lost its bark so my dogs bark warns them of any one on the property. Some people (your neighbors) just don't like kids and dogs. Introduce then to a nice real estate agent - maybe they'll move again :D

2008-07-08 22:34:00 | Ok talking to the dog man today.............. more than likely ill lose my good dog rebate, :crying and when the mediation happens if they can prove my dogs are noisey, the next step is to remove a dog to see if that quietens things down............. and if she then pines and barks for her sister then they will remove that dog and i will have a non dog allowance for this property and me. so i wont ever be allowed to have a dog on this property while i live here........... :crying so for a animal loving person, that is just the most horrid words i could have heard............. :crying beetle

2008-07-08 23:38:00 | if they can prove my dogs are noisey There's the key wording - and that doesn't mean leaning over the fence, or actually doing something to make them bark - and what about the kids ? are they to noisy as well - Time they (neighbors) get a reality check I think . Make sure when talking to the mediator, that the harassing of the kids is not left out .

2008-07-09 00:05:00 | Beetle, I feel for you and it sounds as if you are at your wits end. You have two issues to deal with, barking and escaping. Firstly, barking.. We have been the target of a neighbour with a vendetta, but what they do here is after two complaints send an anonymous questionnaire to 10 neighbours asking if the dog is annoying them. The Council decide on the basis of the replies (if they get any back) whether to take further action. Has the Council there done the questionnaire thing? If not ask them what procedures they follow and perhaps request it. Then go to all your neighbours, explaining your situation and assuring them that you are doing your best to sort things out. I had a discussion with Council a few years back and the dog(s) had to be barking loud and continuously in order to cause a nuisance. Not just a few barks for a minute or so every now and then, but on and on for ages. When we walk our dog around the streets we get a few loud barks from every dog in their yards on our route. That sort of thing is ok as it's barking for a reason, not boredom and it's over quickly. We also find that tying him up (an a long leash near his kennel) works to stop the barking on those nights when he feels the world needs him to yell at it. He is more submissive on his lead (do you walk your dogs on a lead?) and knows that when he's on it, he is to behave. Further, it seems to me that when he is restricted to a specific area that's all he has to 'defend'. Having a large back yard to patrol means he is on edge more and sees it as his job to be everywhere looking for intruders. He's more contented with a smaller patch to look after. Secondly, the Houdini acts... Our dog showed himself as an olympic hurdler too. We were impressed at how 5 - 6 foot gates were cleared (he's a Sharpei-Lab, built like a brick ****ter but obviously has spring in his legs), and we found putting pickets along the top of the gate prevented the leaps. It was enough of a visual deterrent, he probably tried it once when we weren't around and found he couldn't get a good enough surface to push-off from and maybe hurt himself but it worked. Good luck Beetle, I hope things work out for you. Matt

2008-07-11 04:10:00 | Ok an update for now. My neighbour who has a rootie, was outside this morning gardening when he saw the horrid neighbours bash on the fence to get my dogs barking, i immediatly yelled from the inside of the house, as i was inside the kitchen, looking for coffee..... always need early morning coffee. they also complained my dogs barked at 9pm last night and said they barked........ i was outside at that point untying my dogs, and untangling them, shifting blankets and tidying up the mess they made....... so now it seems if i made them bark when i am with them, being silly they will complain. sigh, i dont think he believs me. i said go talk to neighbours but he wont. grrhhhh beetle
