682663	2008-06-26 10:10:00	The problem that my mother sees is the stereotype that says Asians eat cats and dogs (that most Asians like me find extremely pissy and annoying). While that is true in many cases, as for me you'll find that I'll eat one of you guys before you see me eating a dog or a cat! :D There's always the statistical idiots that'll cost you business because of their moronhood. Any business gets victimised by a moron a some time or other. I wouldn't let it worry you. When it comes to medical matters I think there's just as many positive stereotypes - still stereotypes, of course - that would work in your favour. Heck, stick some pins in the moggy and charge em extra for doping acupuncture. Slap some catnip in some pills and tell em its an ancient Chinese herbal remedy for lack of sex drives in cats. While that is true in many cases, as for me you'll find that I'll eat one of you guys before you see me eating a dog or a cat! :D I know there is a lot we can learn from our mothers, but quite frankly, many (like mine and yours) are stuck in the old ages. In our time there isn't quite as much outright discrimination as there would have been 30~40 years ago when they were growing up (or 50 for mine :xmouth: ). Just don't worry about it! From what I hear, it's quite a rewarding profession if that's what you enjoy. Knowing you and your past though (re. Wills stories :P) I would be more worried not about you eating them dogs (or goats to be more specific) ... but something else.... :groan:	Deathwish (143)

The third option tells me the chooser says "I do not care about the whole thing, doctors are doctors, even for pets, and anyone who thinks otherwise are crazy" . And, of course I'm not thinking that people would fear I'd literally eat my clients, what I'm fearing is the sub-conscious stereotype in people's heads that will make them stay away from my clinic . If I make it into the notoriously difficult selection process into semester two will I then have to relocate to Palmerston North (anybody there BTW?) . Hell, yes I'd take my animals to you or any other vet - what I look for is their skills and attitude about the animal. Not what planet or country they or their ancestors originated on.	pctek (84)
