That is if I didn't just sort my own crap out of course. |

| 682629 | 2008-06-26 22:26:00 | Thanks guys, Its what I have always thought. I guess she just wants me to be successful, but I think its the same whatever the item you buy. Cheap and nasty isn't always worth it in the long run......... Husband says its the same with plumbing stuff, theres some pipe he won't touch cause it fails all the time, and a lot of things like taps and shower mixers and stuff, low quality internal bits. |

I have told people with PhD's to buy custom and they have gone and bought HP etc.! |

The average punter would have just gone to the biggest shop with the flash marketing, The ones that turn up at a small outlet which specialises in custom builds doesn't deserve to be shovelled the same ****. Imo, Those that buy pre-built get what they deserve, as should people who make the effort to get something of better quality/value and capabilities. But, we all know I'm as biased as they come. |

The fact is,that in any business we are there to make money, not friends. If you tell the truth about your product to those that want to hear it,then you can't go too wrong. |

Whats your hit rate of convincing a punter who really does want a **** brand computer to buy one of your lovingly hand made pc's which you will stand by . The problem is branding is very important to big business as name does sell . I think most people find buying a computer confusing so they take reassurance from a well known brand which has been in business for nn years . Personally I would build a pc anyday but the average punter on the street wouldn't . |

There failure rate is 'very' low and Dell 'Gold' Support in NZ is very good, sure the business pays more for gold support this needs to be noted. I would not buy a Dell for home simply because there performance is lower than what I can build myself for the same $$. For the corporate world mostly running mostly MS office and other legacy apps Dell does it better than any white box company could in NZ in my honest opinion. In my view it is foolish if you are a white box mover not to off a 'name brand' alternative, there will always be individuals that will insist on a name brand be it misguided or not. |

There failure rate is 'very' low How long have you worked there - how old are the Dells? A court in New York has found Dell guilty of false advertising and fraud . . The company engaged in abusive debt collection practices, misled consumers about the financing terms for which they had qualified and failed to provide consumers with promised rebates, according to court papers . The case arose after hundreds of complaints about Dell and its finance arm Dell Financial Services . "All consumers who were left on hold for hours, promised 'onsite' repair services only to be pressured to take apart their computers themselves, and subjected to numerous other negligent and abusive practices should register their complaints at our website so we can ensure the Dell is held accountable for its failed promises . " The court found that Dell and Dell Financial Services had deceived consumers as to the real cost of their PCs . The company offered complex financing schemes, sold people onsite repair warranties and then refused to honour them and left customers waiting for literally hours on the Dell helpline, according to court papers . Subscribers to a "next-day" repair service sometimes waited as long as a year for support, the court found . Dell also often incorrectly billed people for cancelled orders and for accounts they didn't authorize . The companies then harassed the people for payment, using illegal billing and collection practices, the court said . Dell blamed the situation on a small number of customer complaints . |
