812255 2009-09-21 00:34:00 I would try the MS link. Does XP Home have SP3 on it? Speedy Gonzales (78)

812257 2009-09-21 01:46:00 I copied it from my Windows XP Home machine - will that have caused problems?

Many windows files change over updates....you must have an exact version to replace it with

812258 2009-09-21 02:52:00 Ok - I will extract the exact copy - thank you NZHawk (4093)
812259 2009-09-21 04:49:00 I tried all the MS procedures without any success.

I copied the user32.dll file off the WinXP Pro cd to C:\Windows\System32
and no change the user files are still located in C:\EdrUndoCache

Would it be better to do a backup reformat or

simply move the user data out of C:\EdrUndoCache
to My Documents?

812260 2009-09-21 04:59:00 The copy of userdll.32 wouldnt be the same as what was on the hdd. Unless SP3 was slipstreamed on the CD. Thats probably the other only thing you can try (copy the files from that folder to my docs). Did you do anything in the link I posted? Speedy Gonzales (78)
812261 2009-09-21 05:06:00 Method 1: use the recovery console failed - wouldn't identify drive C:; wouldn't even do a C: /dir
Method 2: SFC ran completely through

812262 2009-09-21 05:11:00 In the C:\EdrUndoCache directory I found a text document that states:

and there is a heap more:

and even more....which I wont post here

does any of this lend to the mystery?
Do you need to see the whole 8 pages?
