Nothing new to add, but to say that mould doesn't seem to be an issue for us. They are well worth the investment.

682388 2008-06-25 11:04:00 We had one put in a couple of weeks ago and are delighted with it.

We asked around those who had one and mould didn't seem to be an issue. As 2 of my shower walls and base are white, it would be very noticeable.

682390 2008-06-25 21:56:00 When we installed our new shower I put in an extractor fan.

With the old shower and no fan, mould was a constant problem. An open bathroom window helped but with inclement weather that can be a bit chilly.

The extractor fan has been in over a year and we have noticed, just recently, that there are three or four very small pieces of mould near the ceiling, the first we have seen. A vast improvement over an open window or no ventilation.

An extractor fan costs between $100 - $200 depending on the size. I am not a handyman but found it relatively easy to install. It is simple enough to connect to your bathroom light wiring (at the light) and so the fan operates each time you use the bathroom light.

If you don't like them operating together you could run some extra cable down to the light switch. Even with a new (double) switch and a piece of extra cable the price is still well below $500. Might be worth considering.
