1443223 2017-12-10 06:33:00 Where-o-where can I find the configuration of my soundcard?

Ubuntu New Installation: 8496

1443224 2017-12-10 21:55:00 Top right in the task-bar is the volume loudspeaker icon.
Left click on it and at the bottom is 'sound settings'
Click on that and you get to the sound configuration utility.
If you want technical info, open terminal and type in
lspci -vvv
(this stands for list pci very very verbose)
in amongst all the guff will be info on your sound card (multimedia audio controller)

1443225 2017-12-11 16:40:00 Dave --- your knowledge and abilities amaze me! Thank-you for that information as it was exactly what I needed to find the feed from my audio card to my amplifier .

The "Test" ability of that made it so much easier to find the correct inputs and the amplifier on the outside of the distro .

I have some info for you to store in your vast library .

The trouble I had with my WiFi dropping out all the time has been vastly improved by just putting the USB cable into a powered hub . It seems that (I think) the voltage/Amperage at a standard USB port is not sufficient to carry the Alpha Unit for any longer than it takes for it to get hot and lose stability .

Heat to me, means voltage drop and that is why the WiFi runs so well for a while and then gets stupid and drops out . A powered hub has it's own wall wart and is better able to handle the load - I think so anyway .

That is my observation .

1443227 2017-12-11 21:02:00 I'd like to be able to get to a shut down icon, or put one on the desktop somehow .

This is on the Ubuntu non-Studio distro . I've had uninterrupted Wi-Fi for over 13 hours straight so far and it's still going gunzells! (NZ = "running great!") .

There's still a problem coming out of Sleep . . . it cannot rebuild the desktop and all I get is a solid purple, empty screen . I can live with that, as I don't use Sleep Mode anyway . . . i was just testing it .

Also . . . I understand that I can use Chrome to view my Netflix subscriptions . . . . . . is that correct?

I tried downloading Chrome twice . . . (no complaints by Ubuntu as it seemed to work OK) . . . . but where is the icon for Chrome?

Can I just drag it from wherever it went, to the sidebar .

I put Pithos there . . . . . . . . . . entirely by accident I think . (I love Pithos!)

1443228 2017-12-11 21:32:00 Yes Chrome works with Netflix. FF does now too in theory but I've found it less reliable and buggy to get working. This is under Linux MINT and Fedora but Ubuntu should be much the same.
I can't advise on how to sort out the Icon though, hopefully Dave can help there, or here's something from Uncle google www.lifewire.com
I did it in MINT KDE and edited the task bar to have the Icon and that's a KDE specific process.

Top right, click on the little gear, click on shut down, then confirm. (See screen-shot)

Haven't found a way to put a shutdown icon on the desktop in Unity:badpc: (latest version of Ubuntu has abandoned Unity and gone back to Gnome desktop, where this stuff is trivial.)

1443230 2017-12-12 03:41:00 If it's using gnome, maybe you can create a shortcut/launcher with gnome-session-quit --force --shutdown

Or use the power button on the case but it probably requires confirmation.

There's also the hotkeys, think its just ctrl+alt+del then hit enter.

When I get home, I'll check if it's right.

Did you not read my post?
He is using 16.04... Unity, so your suggestion is irrelevant.

1443232 2017-12-12 04:50:00 Isn't Unity just a shell for gnome? Kame (312)
