1442968 2017-12-04 21:28:00 Hi there

Any recommendations for freeware MS Office alternatives ?

Something that can be set to save as .DOC by default (so not Libre)
something that isnt adware , isnt nagware , wont constantly try & upsell to paid version.
something that doesnt have suspicious activity , phoning home, accessing things it shouldnt (ie not WPS)
must be able to open .docx (dont need to save as docx, just open them)
something that doesnt seemingly take forever to open .

Otherwise, I have old version of MS Office I could install , but they wont open .docx
Its just for an old laptop thats going to be given away .

You are incorrect, Libreoffice can be made to save as .doc by default

perfect, thanks
I was looking at the wrong dropdown box. A need more coffee , open eyes sort of thing . :-)

FYI, after changing Libre Writer , I had to change the Libre Calc to save as a spreadsheet, as it had set to save as doc as well.
