| 1442152 | 2017-11-17 22:04:00 | Hi guys, for the last 2 days I have been trying to download an antivirus software onto my PC but with no joy, I started with AVG then Avast then Bitdefender and now I am trying Avira. The problem now with this one (and I think I had the same issue with one of the others too) is that I keep getting an error saying "the drive or UNC share you selected does not exist or is not accessible, please select another" I have no idea what it's referring too so am unsure where I am supposed to go to select another. I have looked on youtube but the videos there are either way too confusing for me or point to an issue with an external hard drive which I don't have nor know why I would need one when downloading an antivirus. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this, I am very nervous at the moment as my computer is unprotected. If you have any instructions on what to do please give me as much detail as poss so I know exactly what to do as I'm not very savvy on the computer....thanks in advance :) | DakotaNZ (17161) | ||

| 1442154 | 2017-11-17 23:21:00 | From your description it would appear the download is being directed to a drive that is no longer connected. To overcome that, when you are asked what you want to do with the download, direct it to your download folder. This is the default locations for downloads. I am assuming this is a window system & most likely windows 10. If this is the case you will have Defender antivirus running, unless it has been turned off or disabled. |

The problem I was having when downloading was that it wasn't asking me where to save the file which I thought was weird and that's why I didn't know where it was. If defenders good enough I think I'll just eave it with that though. | DakotaNZ (17161) | ||

| 1442157 | 2017-11-18 06:43:00 | Go to settings in your default Browser and set the Download destination, usually 'Downloads', but can be anywhere else. Defender is good, my only complaint is that it takes a long time to scan. |

In your browser, you can set the default save location for files, I suggest you amend it. The best AV is NOD32, not a free one but far superior to 99%. |

But then, all AV software is now not that great. Viruses get through ALL of them . There is no way they can keep up with the masses of new malware being written so zero day malware gets straight through . The best defence is common sense & being carefull . Also, if your PC is infected , that could be causing AV to not download, install, run. |
