1444275 2018-01-01 04:45:00 My my someone’s all upset over nothing.

The original post sure looked like a question.

I simply posted I had installed the same OS and didn't have the same problem. Which means its not an inbuilt software fault.

I didn't mention windows at all, so why all the agro. Dont go blowing a gasket :)While you intended to be helpful, unfortunately it reads like you are taking a dig at piroska - so I can understand her being aggravated at your comment.

Can we all please get back to providing constructive advice to piroska and quit taking digs at each other over whose OS is the best. Seriously. Or else.

Ta.

1444276 2018-01-01 05:08:00 Not a problem Jen. I did find a common point of the problem. But I'll PM you so I don't go upsetting piroska again.

you can then repost it should you wish. :)

1444277 2018-01-01 05:17:00 Hey Dave ( legit question) Could the problem be anyway related to dual booting ?

I'm not certain, but it seems unlikely, GRUB2 is the boot manager and once it has done its thing it gets out of the way as it has no further function.
I wonder if the issue is with the Cinnamon desktop environment, that would be more likely.
Perhaps Piroska has a spare HDD to try a second install without the dual boot, just to eliminate the dual boot possibility.
Or she could try creating a new user, and see if that user has the same issue.

.

I suspect it was the Cinnamon issue....and the fact that I did a lot of appearance changes, and had things in the wrong place.

Friend, a Unix guru for, um, 40 or more years.....has given me some explanations, and pointed me to where/what I should be doing. Why some linux forum people suggest otherwise beats me, but never mind. I know he has the skills and experience.

All good now, things are lovely, stayed as I have altered them, got things working, including MInecraft for GD for when I do wipe Windows completely.
That was easier than I thought it would be.

A couple of annoyances, the duplex on printing and what version of Word do people prefer?
I know Libre is meant to be the one but I don't like it.

Abiword has a nicer look, but is lacking in ability to mess with layout etc.

Minor issues really...Still not told me there is any update to do....and I have run Timeshift.

1444280 2018-01-01 20:12:00 Good that you have fixed the problem.
As for updates, the update manager is a shield shaped icon
on the right hand side along the bottom, if all up to date it has a green tick in it.

I know. It's currently updating the update manager....LOL.

OK, here's another annoyance. Back in Libre (why it annoys me) I cannot chnage the default template.
Various sites say save one. No, that saves them in my personal templates folder and opening Libre again gives the standard. One suggestions says click Set as DEFAULT. I do, it makes no difference.

I mean word, I'd just edit the .dot and overwroite it, simple.
This - what a PITA.

So then someone else says they are stored in lib/whatever.... system folder. Yep they are. And of course I cannot save to that nor out of it or anything.

Any ideas? I seem to have the latest version of it, I checked.
