1443517 2017-12-18 06:42:00 But now it isn't fun. I find I don't care, I don't want to spend hours messing about with required sw accounts and waiting on updates
...
I don't work as a [me: windows] tech anymore, I find I don't really want to either now. This was not something I wanted to do, and this time, for the first time, it wasn't fun.
It was annoying and a pain.
^^This.

When the changes stop being about improving the 'technicals' and start being about "monetising" the user, you realise you are on the wrong train.

MS has decided there is more money to be made emulating ggl, fb etc and is becoming a pleb farmer, rather than a software vendor.

I don't want to be in that paddock, and I don't want to support it, because most of the "support" required is signing people up to various "services" and perpetuating the lock-in.

1443519 2017-12-18 06:47:00 We octogenarians need an OS like Win 10 to help keep the brain active, it's great :) Terry Porritt (14)
1443520 2017-12-18 07:45:00 I fixed a pc last week, the guy bought it to me saying he thought he had virus , it was chewing up all his rural internal data cap. I scanned it , all was clean. an examination of windows update history showed that it had tried and failed to download windows 10 1607. It had tried to update 6 times hence his cap was eaten up. He had to pay $120 to his isp just to get his pc back online for the month.

I ran the windows upgrade assistant over top of it which finally got him to version 1709 then enabled the metered connection which wasnt available previously. Hopefully that will prevent it happening again.

1443522 2017-12-18 07:55:00 I don't want to be in that paddock, and I don't want to support it, because most of the "support" required is signing people up to various "services" and perpetuating the lock-in. Just like Adobe, Spotify, Apple Services, Paid VPN's, Netflix and various others - Yep all one sided. NOT !! wainuitech (129)

1443524 2017-12-18 16:59:00 Nah, only if you have an unreasonable grudge against Microsoft. ;)

If you want to indulge in “Microsoft Masochism”, that is entirely up to you.

May the Pain be with You. :)
