1444265 2018-01-01 03:31:00 AND the consistent PITA to enter a password to do anything. :waughh:

You’re dead right there Wainui but it can be fixed. :) I just can’t remember how off the top of my head, but it’s in the other thread that got me started.

I only use a password to add or remove a programme, everything else just works.

No log-on even.

1444266 2018-01-01 03:37:00 FYI-- just installed Mint on a spare HDD, 18.3 (The previous version was 17.??) , none of the actions Piroska happened even after a shutdown.
:

Even now, you continue to be a prick.

Not an uuncommon issue apparently.
Not that thread helped me much

1444267 2018-01-01 03:37:00 It's dual boot on my one and only HDD.

It installed on D:, not C:.

No log-on even. Yeah BM, no login required, and to be honest only installed 18.3, to see if the same fault happened as OP posted so none of those setting (disable password prompts) have not been turned off (yet) :)

Get a grip lady, only posted to say never had the problems you did. Just to look and see if it was a software fault.

Just goes to show you dont look either, that link was posted Sun Aug 21, 2016 There have been several upgrades of the os since then, if it were a major fault it would have been fixed by now. Sometimes getting help for minor problem is like pulling teeth, unless the right help comes along.
Good luck on getting it fixed.

Why don't YOU get a grip?

Just posted to comment without providing any useful information.
I DID look, actually, and looked at a hell of a lot more threads than that.
Perhaps it hasn't occurred to you I recently downloaded the thing? It' s already an updated version now....with the install, which is pr=erhaps why it has not yet felt the need to run any updates...I did look at those settings and stuff you know. It's ON, not off like I do with Windows.

There was a guy I worked with once at a large corporation.
He frequently told users to “not **** it up” and such.

One guy had a login in issue every morning, we swapped shifts and I had the early one, this guy told me, oh X is an idiot, you’ll have to reset his password every day.

So, I asked X to show me how he logged on, using notepad.
Capitals. He’d press caps lock to get his capital letter and of course it stayed on.
No-one had bothered showing him this and explaining the case sensitivity business.

Likewise one of the secretaries. She did nothing except phone switchboard then they asked her to do some stuff in Excel. She was terrified, zero experience on the PC at all.

X comes along, and as usual shows her at light speed what to do, then says oh don’t call me when you screw it up.

Totally helpful. Clams them down completely, of course.

I used to show people and explain what, how and why. When it came time to ditch some staff, guess which of us they wanted to lose?

You’re getting like that.
I admit I have little experience in Linux and probably am the dumb user at this stage. So?

As for Win10, I wouldn’t have dreamed of asking you the stuff I actually wanted to do to it. I doubt you ever have.

You’re happy to let it run as MS want.

My son was not. Never mind my thoughts. I have however, succeeded, so far anyway….
And nothing about it has made me want to run it myself.

I only ever stuck with Windows in the first place because of gaming, specifically DirectX gaming.

Now I don’t much, I have no need to.
I enjoyed DOS, once I learned, it was fun.

Windows – back then – didn’t thrill me much at all. OK, they made it more user friendly after a few iterations, which is the point for the vast majority of users. Switch on the device and go do whatever it is they want to do on it.
Without having to learn computing in any form.

It used to piss them off a lot, back when you had to know a reasonable amount. Now Linux has caught up a lot, it’s no wonder more people are trying it.

So get over the fact that some people are not fans, some people don’t care what everyone elses preferences are. It’s not a reason to call people stupid and crow about your immense cleverness.

1444271 2018-01-01 04:03:00 My my someone’s all upset over nothing.

The original post sure looked like a question.

I simply posted I had installed the same OS and didn't have the same problem. Which means its not an inbuilt software fault.

I didn't mention windows at all, so why all the agro. Dont go blowing a gasket :)

and select 'Set as Wallpaper'

1444273 2018-01-01 04:19:00 Have you thought about going to a professionally written OS like Windows 10 that has all the bugs out of it.

I just like eating mints.

It's a funny thing Digby, but I don't seem to remember you ever helping anyone.
Perhaps you could just wobble off back to uselessland, where you obviously belong. :)

and select 'Set as Wallpaper' Hey Dave ( legit question) Could the problem be anyway related to dual booting ?
